My sister is having a baby shower,

But, I received an invitation in the mail.
Is it expected of everyone that receives an invitation to purchase a gift whether they go or not?
I know it's expected with weddings, but I have never been invited to a baby shower before.

Baby showers are usually girl only events.

Whats with guys being invited these days?

I dunno, it seems to me as if baby showers are giant 'by me a gift' pleas, they send invites to everyone they know, the bigger the net the more gifts they'll get.

You don't HAVE to get a gift, but it is your sister.
Get her something small if you don't want to go. Usually, there is some weird unwritten rule that it is nice to get a gift whether or not you attend, but you don't have to.

Men dont go to the showers. If you still received an invite, make a brief appearance at the end of the shower.

It's your freaking sister, dude, but her a damn gift!

Yeah its supposed to be like the girls version of a guys bachelors party. That makes no sense to invite guys to one other then to be materalistic and try to get as much free stuff as you can I would think.

Guys would be bored to death at one of them and who would really want to see some guy striping and getting drunk on girly drinks 😛

Or you could show up with a keg and brink your own stripper to it 🙂

don't go, just buy her something for the kid

showers are for chicks, i don't care how you roll, you don't have to go, since you are a dude

It's not like I won't buy a gift. I just don't know if it's expected of people that don't show.
I don't want to go to the baby shower. So I am not going...lol.

So you're getting her a gift even though you're not going. No problem there. /thread

My brother's wife is hosting a baby shower for a friend where guys and girls are getting hooked in. My brother has a master plan to set up a Plasma TV with a PS3 in one room for all the guys to run away to.

seems now baby showers are for both men and women. we have gone to 5 in the last 2 years every one was a mixed event.

Call your sister and tell her that you won't go because it's a girl's thing. It's your sister man, you can talk to her. No shows are rude.

my cousin had a baby shower earlier this month and her close male family... brother in law, nephew, father, were there along with a couple of male friends... and the dad to be of course.

ask her if other guys are going. might be fun. free food. and prizes.
