My roomie just got a MSI K7T266Pro2 and my ECS K7S5A beats it in SiSoft memory scores, anyone know why?

Run the Sandra test 10 times, sequentially, on each machine. Chances are you will see about 10% variation in the scores on each machine.

you didnt say what the memory timings were on each board?

lots of things besides the motherboard effect the memory speed, things including but not limited to the cas, 4way interleaving.

the fact is all other things being equal the kt266a will beat the 735 in most all benchmarks including memory speed

edited to add a link to backup my statement 🙂 link

why? because this board rocks! id take stability over sheer speed tho, altho that statement could be applied to any mobo that "works." anyway, love my K7S5A.

well.. let me break the bad news to you..

The MSI KT266 PRO 2, is one of the slower KT266A boards out 🙂
Its also one of the most stable though..

just my two cents 🙂

Run your little ECS board up against the Shuttle or Epox, and come back 😉

I thought that the review over at Tom's Hardware showed the Shuttle as being a bit of an underperformer... Has that been fixed with a recent BIOS update or something? It looked like the Gigabyte, Soyo, and Soltek boards were all faster than the Shuttle...

Just curious...

In synthetic tests (ala Sandra) K7T266Pro-2 is roughly equal to SiS 735. In real world performance, I'm 100% sure you'll find the SiS 735 board "speedier". There are several reasons for this, but to avoid a flame shoot, I'm not getting in to details.

I come away with the same feeling - especially when running content-creation apps (although I admit it's subjective)!

Sub, hope you passed that physical <g>. Nothing wrong with the Asus and P4 if ya got the $$. Got one machine with an Asus CUSL2C and an overclocked Celeron and it's rock solid

I'm thinking about getting the K7S5A with a Duron to upgrade my kids' machine. Looks like it's picked up a lot of fans in the past few months. Couple of BIOS upgrades work wonders. For the money it seems ya can't beat it!
