so i sold a zen vision:m to an ATOT'er in the sell/buy forum. i said i would ship out this monday but could not so i advised them i would ship out tuesday morning on my way to a business meeting.

i stopped at a post office in Secaucus, NJ in the AM on the way out. i had taped the bottom of the box shut but not the top as i had somethin gin the car to look for to put in the box as well. an accessory. i forgot to bring a roll of tape with me.

after waiting in line in secaucus for 7 minutes while 1 cashier did passport photos, and 4 other employees walked around playing with envelopes ignoring us in line, finally one of them opened up their register.

i said i would like to ship this first class and insured, when i politely asked for her for a quick tape job, she said we dont do that here. i said what if i get priority mail, they always use the priority mail tape and shut it with that. she said no. i said they always do at the post office in wayne, nj and cedar knolls, nj - she said well go there, or you can buy tape here. i said, u gotta be kidding me and left.

oh and that is true, in both wayne and cedar knolls, both places will tape my boxes shut with regular tape even if i ship first class - or priority tape if you use priority mail. id say one out of every 3 packags i ship i dont have the top taped shut cause i am putting something else in it after i leave the apartment.

so i went to the jersey city post office (one of them) after my meeting - this place wouldnt tape up the top of my box for me either. but they would provide priority mail tape for me if i shipped it priority mail. so i did.

WTF! CONSISTENCY PLEASE!

we pay their damn salaries and costs with our tax money, and they cant give up a little fuckin tape.

its just a little thing that ticked me off yesterday.

i just wanted to let it out and have people call me silly for being pissed about it, which is what probably willhappen shortly :D

Perhaps you should properly package your item BEFORE you leave and get to the post office?

BTW that's no excuse for not shipping when you said you would.

i had to look for something to put in it that i thought i may have left at work or in the car. so i forgot to bring tape.

perhaps the post office should be so kind as to give the taxpayer peasants a bit of tape?

now that would be somethign now would it. people having a busy day, maybe forget something as harmless as a roll of tape, and then tape it up witha couple of pieces.

2 of the 4 post offices i frequent luckily have humans that dont think like yourself nor the 2 other post offices i went to - they think like reasonable humans instead.

i have shipped 1 day late on a variety of sales due to work related issues or the such, and nobody has ever given me bad heat because that is reasonable,a day grace period. i had a work issue monday and didnt make it to the post office, so i mailed it PRIORITY a day later instead of first class, which i was planning on using. regular USPS insured deliver confirmation.

i always have let them know via PM that i am a day late, i am open with communications - and nobody has been pissed or left a negative heat cause of it. i ship what i say, i pack it well, and i ship it in what seems a very reasonable amount of time. it seems most people are more reasonable than yourself.

I'd rather have the price of stamps stay where they are than have the post office give free tape to every fat stupid piece of shit that forgets tape.

My gripe with the post office is that they over serve small communities and under serve the cities. Every piss-ass wide spot in the road has a post office while wait times at urban post offices are ridiculous. No wonder businesses have shifts to FEDEX and UPS for so much of their shipping.

and the post office is no longer supported by your tax dollar, iirc.

well they get 100 million a year from us. they also make 1 billion a year in profit, yet constantly raise postage.

they can give the peasants some tape.

2 out of 4 places are kind enough to seal up a box, especially since people often buy their ready post boxes there and fill them up there, something i have done a few time - in fact this last box was a ready post box, and bubble wrap from them.

i buy bubble wrap, the box, and 2 post offices tape it up. 1 doesnt at all and 1 used priority mail tape only..

Wow. The post office gives away Priority Mail supplies for FREE to get you to use the service.......though I don't see tape available anymore.
