My shaving woes, aka my "trash-stache"

I'm a 20 year old male of European descent (my ancestors are mainly from Finland and Germany). I have dark blond hair, blue eyes, fair skin but I grow black facial hair.

I have decent facial hair growth on my chin and sideburn/chops area. I have splotchy hair growth everywhere else, so I couldn't really grow a full moustache, or the hair connecting a moustache and beard if I wanted to. At any rate, I like to keep as clean-cut as possible, because it looks pretty silly otherwise.

The fair skin with dark facial hair combination makes it so that if I don't shave for a day or two, a sketchy little moustache appears pretty visibly. So, the natural thing to do is to shave it (I use a Mach 3 Turbo razor, sensitive skin shave gel, and Nivea for Men sensitive skin aftershave balm). However, my skin is pretty darned sensitive, so shaving it results in some skin irritation, even if I don't cut myself. The irritated area constrasts with my skin tone, in the pattern of the area I shaved, and this irritated skin in the shape of a moustache often ends up looking worse than the original sketchy moustache. It's realllllllly infuriating.

My skin on my chin, neck, etc. really doesn't get irritated when I shave it. It's the upper lip that likes to give me a hard time.

In the summer, when I get some sunshine, both problems tend to disappear. Getting sun darkens my skin and lightens the hair a bit, so the hair doesnt look as bad when it's there. And the darker skin makes it so that you can't notice the contrasting irritation from shaving.

Has anyone had a similar situation? What kinds of things should I be trying? I'm laughing at myself here, I just can't seem to win.

The only thing I would consider is shaving cream designed for sensative skin (Edge makes a decent one). Other than that.... wax or electrolisys. 😛

You could always try finding some beard dye and lighten up your facial hair to match the rest of your hair if you're willing to do that.

I've got the same problem, except in reverse. My hair is dark brown but my goatee tends to grow in with blond and reds mixed in with the brown, so I have to dye it periodically to darken it up.
