I was wondering what the fasted upgrade i could put in this thing is.

it currentlyhas a socket 370 celeron 500mhz, the latest bios was sept 5 2001

my guess is that i could possibly upgrade it to a celeron 950, but what i really want to upgrade it to is a tualtin celeron 1.2ghz, with 100hmz system bus, i called a tech guy at dell and he was not sure, he did say that it would support a 100mhz system bus processor though, meaning it probably would support a pentium 3, and its the 810 chipset w/graphics core integrated.

need some help......

the AT mobo FAQ might say but as far as I know no i810 chipset mobos support tualatin, for intel you need i815e / ep b-step.

You might by able to use a "socket T" adapter (thread on this in hot deals forum).

so even with a fcpga to fcpga2 converter, you think the board still will not recognize a tualtin celeron 1ghz?

Dunno about the Dell GX100, but the Dell GX150 is supported by the Upgradeware Slot-T Tualatin adapter. The GX150 supposedly is an i810. Your GX100 might work but YMMV.

I'm running a Slot-T with Tualatin 1.4 GHz on my ancient Asus P2B. VERY nice boost over my old Celeron 533A@800. I thought about a PIII Tualatin 1.4, but they cost too much, and would require an overclocked AGP on my BX board.

On the Dell forums, there are alot of people who use the Powerleap adapters to upgrade their older systems. According to PL, the fastest processor you can use is a 1.1ghz P3. Here's the link:

Kinda spendy, though.

i just got a fcpga to fcpga2 converter off ebay for $18, why would this company charge so much for their adapter and cpu?

if figure i can get a 1ghz celeron 2 off pricewatch for $40 shipped and my adapter for $18 so total, i have $58, thats much better than $199

you think there is any difference between my adapter and the powerleap one?

ebay one i just got

one more thing, mine is already s370, i don't need a slot card, i need a 370-fcpga2 converter

the original question was will an fcpga 2 chip (celeronII 1ghz) sitting in a fcpga2-fcpga coverter work in the system

how do these devices handle the lower voltage? or does the chip automatically adjust the board to use less voltage?

should be fine. get a retail celly tually from new egg or something, 1.1a is like 40~ bux now. retail cuz it comes with a decent fan. well 1.1a is best for overclocking, if u don't do that, get a higher clock chip. 1.1a easily does 1.5ghz if fsb is @133.

voltage should be fine. adjust on mb or in bios. if its slightly more then it should be, who cares:p

I have one of those adapters from ebay/compgeeks. It says that it will only upgrade PPGA chips to FCPGA chips or FCPGA to FCPGA2. It doesnt look like you can go from ppga to fcpga2. But it might be worth a try.

damn i just realised that my socket is ppga (all celeron 500s are ppga) will an fcpga work in a ppga 370 socket?

here is another interesting peice of info

apparently dell made these up to 700mhz celerons, but all celeron 700s are fcpga chips, so with an unmodified board these fcpga celerons are running in ppga sockets, so any ways i bought that adapter, fcpga to fcpga2 converter and a 1.1celeron, i'm keeping my finers crossed

not to mesion the specs show that is supports 100mhz ram, meaning it should suport 100fsb processors

you can also buy these with p3 500s, which are socket 370 fcpga, so i'm assuming it would hopfully work

bump, i started building computers with athlons, so i'm not too informed on fdiffernet socket types, i think its pretty gay that intel has 3 different s370 socket types for 1 processor

amd is the same way!

the XP processors don't work in all the older socket a motherboards, and the new barton's don't work in all the XP era motherboards..

true, its just frustrating for both processor users, i'm just looking for info, why can't they standardize this stuff?

Repeating Eug because he's got the right idea! ;) If you want a Tually, this is the ticket. But you might want to contact UpgradeWare to see if it'll work in your machine. If it's not on the compatibility list it's because:
A) They didn't test it...
B) Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't....
C) It simply won't work at all.
