My serpentine belt broke and the owner who had the car before me lost the cap to the reservoir so I haven't been put in power steering fluid into the reservoir I've been running it without and so today the pump was making a funny sound so I put fluid into the reservoir and just put something to stop the fluid from coming out well as soon as I was pulling in my driveway the serpentine belt broke and smoke was coming from up under the hood but the car never overheated and never lost any power steering nothing of the sort I just saw smoke coming from a burner car and turn the car off and open the hood and found that the belt was broke so I turned the car off to look under the hood and seen the belt broke I think my serpentine belt broke because the pulley on a power steering pump pulley locked up is this possible that's the problem with me just pulling up into the yard could I messed anything else up please help I'm a lady I know a lil bit bout cars but not this answer

Moved from the power supply forum as I believe more accurate advice will be found here. ;)

Move it to where

You posted your thread in the 'Power Supplies' forum, which is a computer component.

I already moved your thread to 'The Garage' forum, where you should receive more helpful answers concerning your car. :)

What kind of car, model year, mileage?

You mentioned the previous owner - how much did you pay for the car and how long have you had it?

I would answer yes it is possible that if the Power Steering pump locked up the serpentine belt would break.

If that is true you should be able to replace the power steering pump and install a new serpentine belt and be good.

How far did you drive with the belt broken? One some cars, the serpentine belt or accessory belt drives the water pump that recycles the coolant into the engine block. You risk blowing a head gasket with a non-operational water pump. That's the worst case scenario. Best case scenario, nothing got damaged and you just need to replace belt & power steering pump and be good.
