Bought a TV back in December. Had to open a Sears Mastercard to get the promotional 0% financing for 18 months. I never paid attention to the interest rate since I am not using it for anything other than this TV.

Fast forward to last week: I get the statement and they increased my interest rate to 27.49%!! BWAHAHAHAHAHA Why would ANYONE use a credit card with an interest rate like that????

(oh, btw, I have a credit score around 720. This is just Sears hoping that I will miss a payment or not pay off my TV by the end of the promotional period, so then they can rape me with finance charges. I think that I will pay off the TV this month just so I don't have to deal with it.)

you should pay it, but write the check for 10 cents more than you need to, so that when you close the account they have to mail you a check for 10 cents

yeah, my credit card companies have pulled that crap on me. I just pay off the card and call them to tell them I don't appreciate the interest spike and that I have other options. Usually they drop it back down to around 5 - 8 % and send out 0% interest rate promotional checks.

How the heck did that happen? Both threads had all of the replies. Did they add a merge thread feature to FuseTalk?

I feel sorry for people that use cards with that kind of interest rate and then have to pay finance charges. I really do. It is a quick way to get into a lot of trouble.

At least you had a positive experience with it. I have yet to need to call them. Still bugs me that my interest rate is so high.
Just sign up for internet payments NOW. And pay off something like $1 in a week when that waiting period ends, because your first payment is limited. After that, you'll be set to pay the rest when the time comes without the headaches I could have faced.

Unless these people are of sub-par IQ that can't understand how money works, I don't see how you can feel sorry for them.

If you can't afforf the $5000 tv... don't buy it.

And I thought my CC was bad. It's my first card that I got through my bank, and it's got a rate of like 22%. I barely ever use it, and almost always have it paid off(After the first few months I went crazy with it, without doing something stupid like maxing or missing a payment). I should call in and ask them to drop the rate since they bumped the line by $800 since I got it ($1k line to start with), and have never been late ect ect. That or just cancel it.
