My school's law school dropped from 26 to 45 in rankings... because of an error!

read it in today's student newspaper... they said it's most likely because of a error in calculation of statisics, on the part of the law school. you have to think someone's getting fired over that one...

on another note, i had no idea our law school was so highly ranked.

Those rankings are so full of bs anyways.. how do you honestly tell the difference between the #37 and #38 school?

well yea, but i bet you can tell the diff between the #1 and the #50 school (which mine happens to be closer to :(). i agree though, the closer they are the more subjective it becomes. still... that's a huge drop.

But you don't think there's a difference between the 26th and 45th ranked schools?

oh yea, and i should mention that this is the rankings by US news and world report... and this is from an advance copy. hopefully they'll be able to sort it out before it goes to press...

on another note, the law school is getting a new building, so it'll probably be even higher than 26 next year.

There might be.. but if some dumb error could drop a schools rank, then im sure that more then 1 are messed up. Besides, what are these magic numbers that they are using anyways? Ranking is opinion, and opinions suck. I'd much rather read a list of topnotch schools for law, then 2nd tier, etc. Or a sliding scale or something, but not direct comparison, because a private small class size research base school could be perfect for someone, but an apprentice/master real world application type of school/program could be perfect for someone else. Who is to say which is better.

yea, i'm not sure what all the criterea are. but the article said that the statistic in question is job placement, iirc, which is pretty non-subjective :p

The identical thing happened to my law school during my first year. We were 23rd and went to 45th, solely because of our marginal career services office.
