Well.. if you have lung cancer, you should be happy.. cuz you were in a girls locker room.

NIWOT, Colo. - Niwot High School will be closed Tuesday after construction workers found asbestos in a girls locker room.

Most asbestos-containing products in buildings will not release substantial numbers of fibres, and risks to occupants will be insignificant.

Because the mere presence of asbestos-containing materials creates no hazard, building owners should determine whether asbestos-containing products are releasing fibres.

Well that depends how and being in is so overrated, my high school had the doors in a dumb spot so when waiting for classes you can see some of the lockers and benches where people changed.

Should I be happy, or do I have lung cancer? :\

You have AIDS.

Anyway, you have nothing to worry about. Asbestos isn't dangerous until you try removing it. It's harmless when it's in the walls or in the floor, but tearing down the walls or ripping out the floor releases a lot of that stuff into the air.

To win spelled backwards??? Not exactly aiming real high.

Our school is like some kind of experiment where they see how low they can pay teachers and still have kids preform well.

That's what they were doing. Apparently the construction workers we hired don't know what asbestos looks like. I'm not really worried though.

That would imply that the teachers you have went into teaching for the money...which makes no sense, since no teacher I've ever met did it for the money...

Well, not how low the pay teachers, it's how much money our district gives to our school. Our budget is somewhere around tree fiddy.

every teacher i have met went in for the money among other reasons... money being one of the biggest driving force. They only work like 8 months a year. College professors work alot more but make a ton.

Your dumbshit principal needs some sort of a delayed overreaction award. Welcome to the late 1980! Lets cause a huge scare over nothing!!

Unless some crazed janitor was going around smacking kids upside the face with trout made entirely of asbestos, there is no need to evac. Get some people in there over the weekend.

Meanwhile, some of the dorms and labs/classes at my college look like they have asbestos ceilings. We all joked about it for a while.

"The school has about 1,280 students, many of whom were more than happy to get out of class early."

This is only true for science and engineering fields where they bring in research $$. Professors in liberal arts often make less than highschool teachers in their equivalent fields.

Definitely not true in my experience. All my professors were clearing over 100k in the history department.

Or if you'd read you'd see they were doing construction and exposed the asbestos, which yes, is a health hazard.

Frankly they should have inspected it prior to starting whatever they were doing so they'd know it was there already and do the project when students aren't there. but whatever.

i thought they got rid of asbestos in public schools back in like 1993... i remember back in middle school, they shut down a wing of school at a time to remove the asbestos in the ceiling.
