My SANSA died...

so my sansa died last night... i absolutely need a new mp3 player, stat!

can someone recommend a nice mp3 player?

EDIT:

-Would like to avoid the ipod like the plague because I don't really like itunes...
-in terms of storage, anything ~5gb and up is ok.
-price isn't really an issue
-i will probably use it only for work so size doesn't matter, i have my ipod shuffle for work out (which is why i do not like itunes)

I think Apple has one out called an iPod or something.... It has had moderate success from what I hear

please, no snide comments.

In all seriousness, I have a 30gb iPod video and I dont have any complaints. I played around with my friend's Zen and had a few minutes with a Zune in a store... Neither gave me the ease of use as my iPod. Thats just my opinion though. Im sure there are Zune/Zen owners which have the opposite view

well there are currently 3 products on the market...
theres the sansa... the ipod... and the zune

your options are a little bit... LIMITED.

Should you get a new SANSA or should you get a new SANSA?

Getting a newer Ipod doesn't limit you to Itunes if you use something like Rockbox. I like the Creative lineup myself (but own a 60GB Ipod running Rockbox because the price was right)

To throw out an alternative (or something to do until you buy an mp3 player), you can always stream music to work using Orb and just plug your headphones into your computer or laptop. Orb's interface is pretty spartan right now, it offers the same functionality of an ipod shuffle (just next/prev song, shuffle/repeat on or off) but it lets you access your entire harddrive at home.

May I ask what happened to your Sansa?

I have two Sansa players myself, and I'm curious...

some error after i installed the new firmware, something about unable to load image, going to restore mode etc etc. not sure what happened.

Have you tried the forums over at www.anythingbutipod.com There should be steps there to help you recover from firmware failures. I have a e250 and use that forum to help me repair from a failed firmware upgrade.

This thread in particular might be able to fix your problem on your current player if its in the sansa e2xx line.

As far as recommendations on a new player I would say Archos , Sansa or the creative zen line.

Edit:

Added in links.
