I had that problem too. They decided that the problem was the connection at the junction box was bad... They took out the cable and saw it was charred from one of the recent storms. They replaced that one and I had a signal again. Ask them to check ALL of your connections.
Which junction box? Entering the residence, a split inside the residence, or someone outside of your home, on their network? The techs that I have had out here so far don't give a crap about much of anything, nor do they have any knowledge whatsoever about their own network.

reset your cable modem.. unplug and plug it back in.. always works for me

Never works for me :-/

thats what the service rep told me to do... something about how the modem's cache gets filled, and stops working, and some mumbo jumbo like that. just unplug it.

I had a problem like yours about a year ago. Called Comcast and they tried all the different approaches but nothing worked. They scheduled an appointment for the following week.

I decided to check out the cables in the apartment and also at the junction box in the basement. They never locked the box so it was easy to get to. I took a piece of sand paper and cleaned the ends of the coax and everything worked great after that. One of the connections must of started to get gunked up. They were all on tightly before I sanded them, so it wasn't a loose connection. You should give that a try.

I live in a neighborhood... there are junction boxes (those green boxes that sit above ground). That is where my cable was absolutely fried. If I were you, I would call the head of service or talk to a manager, the people who you intially call are useless. The Techs who come out are SUPPOSED to check that, but they didn't in my case:|

Good luck.

My Staten Island roadrunner is great it only went down two times, but we called them and they fixed it, If you having problems with RR, then switch to Earthlink or Verizon DSL.

My RR always goes down for randomly large windows of time, then is fine for weeks. I've seen it spend days or just windows of 20 minutes where this happens. Motorola CyberSurfer Wave Modem in the Columbus, OH area. Something with the cable connection because the "Cable" light will blink, it keeps resetting itself, and it only synchs (cable light comes on and you're able to load a page or two) for about 10 seconds and then the cable light goes out again. Our cable tv feed is fine, but not the modem. RR tech came out to attempt to fix it once... got here and said "well, things are working now" and wanted to leave right away. Sadly, he did so without doing anything. They have to know what's really going on, right ?

Mine does the exact same thing... I have a 3Com modem... I live in the Columbus area too.

Which RR Network are you on? T-W or Insight? I am on Insight Columbus Rebuild #2, and my problem is the exact same as yours.

I'm actually just south of grove city. Our cable connection is on a telephone pole, so we'll have to do things special-like to get up there.

Ah, I live in Reynoldsburg -- Slate Ridge. It's a subdivision that's about 10-15 years old. We have the above ground green 'junction boxes'... I'll have to see if I can coax one of the Insight employees to check it out. I think I'll wait until the next problem, though.

Anyone else in Columbus Ohio having connection problems now?

My RR was down for over an hour. I know it was not just my place, though... called a friend and his was down too 🙂

darn, the title made me think that you had a rolls royce motor!

That's what I was thinking. bacillus has a Rolls Royce?!

Why on earth would you think bacillus has a Rolls Royce if NOCTURNAL was the one who posted?

And for that matter, why would this title make anyone think someone had a rolls royce motor instead of the whole car?

Sheesh, someone is a bit critical today.

I typed in the wrong name so sue me. Is that a good enough reason for you? Jeez ...

Roadrunner is freaking bomb out here in orange county. Fastest connection, and barely any downtime, maybe 5 minutes every several weeks. Great customer service too - every time I have a problem they pinpoint it.. fairly quickly and they're not hesitant to send somebody out here or to switch my free 3com modem out with a new one.

Ideally, the downstream signal to the cable modem should be between -12db and 12db. If it is over or under, you will have connectivity problems, though most cable modems will operate between -15db and 15db. Also, the downstream signal to noise ratio should be above 30db.

As for the upstream, the power should not be above 55db; the lower it is the better.

You may be able to check for signal levels by typing http://192.168.100.1/signal.htm into your browser.

Just schedule something for the weekend. Or usually they have an evening slot on certain days. Otherwise find an unemployed friend to sit at your house and let the guy in.
