my RR connection will go for a little while and then just stop working completely.

Maybe a weak cable connection? Is this a new problem, or always been?

If it's always been, have them test your line speed at your house, it could be the cable.
If it's just happened, try unplugging the modem for 30 seconds, then plugging it back in and see if it grabs a solid line (all lights solid except activity which blinks). Then try releasing and renewing your IP.

Have them come out and test the cable fidelity. It could just be a bad cable. And make them give you a service credit for their sh|tty service.

I get this problem every so often. Everything will work then all of a sudden, the Internet dies. I have a Toshiba modem and while toying with it during an 'outage' I've found that this always restores service:

Remove Coaxial Cable.
Screw back Coaxial Cable.
Unplug Power
Wait
Plug in Power.
Watch the lights blink

Sounds like the hard way of making it reset, but I've used the reset button and it doesn't work.

wow...i have a toshiba modem as well and USED to get those problems a lot. RR highly suggests that you run the modem via ethernet, as i was doing. The problems seemed to go away for awhile. Now the problems are back (as of three days ago). It's really annoying b/c i originally thought the problem was a compatibility issue with winxp and my modem, so i switched to win2k. Low and behold, the problem is still here. The easiest fix i've found is to disconnect power to the modem (via the power cable *NOT the COAX*) and unplug it for a quick second, then plug it back in. My system resources hang while my cpu is @ 100% and my system freezes for a minute or two, but it usually corrects itself. Occasionally, the modem WON'T restart itself and i have to either log off or restart my rig. BTW...timewarner/RR has NO information on this topic and is unable to help you. They told me i was some kind of freak case and that they'd never heard of this before. And a quickie...i'm nowhere near ANY military base.

I called about it once and they were going to schedule someone to come check my house. While they put me on hold, I tried what I said before. 99% of the time it works, one time I had to tighten the Coax from the house feed so that should account for the 1%. And if you unplug the Coax and plug it in while the modem is on, then disconnect the modem for a mere second, you will not get a system hang. Although that could be because since I connect through a Router/Switch.

they flashed mine and it works excellent now. was getting 5% packet loss before. it would just die for a minute then come back on, but the minute was long enough to kick me out of whatever game i was playing.
