My Route Keeps Disconnecting

Recently i've been getting short bursts of disconnection (noticed it while playing a game). I checked the status lights on the router and I notice that every so often the light on the connection im using turns off the comes back on real quick. I thought it was because the cable I was using wasn't genuine cat5 cable so I went out and bought a spool of cat 5e cable from home depot and re-did the wiring but that didn't fix anything. So I downloaded the latest firmware for both routers and flashed it. Still doesn't work. I'm stumped, anyone help me?
