Simple answer to that would be: "No, not really". The most obvious thing that I could see doing, is (assuming that your mobo can handle it, and you have good CPU cooling), would be to overclock the FSB on your CPU, to squeeze out a little more overall performance, as well as increase CPU performance.

Second, depending on how much of a memory workload you run, you might consider doubling the size of your RAM to 1GB. Is your motherboard capable of running the memory in dual-channel operation? If so, that can increase your overall system efficiency as well, by effectively doubling the memory bandwidth available.

If you are still running a 75GXP HD, well, those buggers were actually quite fast for their day, and still have better seek/access times than nearly all of the more modern PATA IDE HDs. You could consider getting a 10K RPM WD Raptor drive, but that would also necessitate getting a PCI SATA controller card as well.

Before dropping the "huge bucks" on another upgrade, I would wait until the newer PCI-Express motherboards and video cards show up, along with DDR2, etc. Unless you have a legitimate pressing need to upgrade (ie - business workflow reasons, machine is actually legitimately too slow, other than a nagging want to "upgrade"), then I would try to hold off for now.

Okay I went ahead and got myself another 512 mb of memory...so now I'm up to a gig. That gave me a little boost that should keep me happy for a few months.

I am thinking of doing a Serial ATA PCI card and replacing that 75GXP. That will probably be the next step.

Maverick-

Please keep us informed of the results of going that route.... I have been back and forth on the pros and cons of it. I can't decide whether to go sata or pata, or whether raid 0 would make it feel worth it for the extra cost. Seems to be varied opinions on that here.
