my replaced rock band guitar sucks too

aka Brandon
So I requested a replacement guitar from EA because of the downstrum problem. Got that today and the strum bar works great. However, the tilt sensor must be broken in the new one as I can't activate the overdrive by tilting the guitar. It works fine with the other guitar, or with the back button on the new guitar. Looks like I'll be shipping my old guitar away, then requesting another new one right away... ugh

Had the same issue too, but I just use the select button ... but still, the strum bar isn't as good as the GH2 controller I noticed.

I like the rock band strum bars better (when they work) in general. But that little lip on the end of it is quite annoying. If they used the triangular shape of the GH controllers with the motion of RB it'd be perfect for me 😀

I have the same problem and was contemplating whether to ship it back or not. I definitely do not like using the select button to initiate overdrive.

In my experience, it appears the rock band guitars use some kind of ball-mechanism to determine tilt and only activates it upon an upward movement. I normally play with the guitar tilted up a bit already, so to activate it, I need to tilt down first, then back up. Works like a charm, and if I'm standing up I always get reminded of the ZZ Top video where they tilt like that.

Anyway, try that out - it might work better.

OKay. I heard if you play the stratocaster with a real guitar pick it is easier..

Also I heard that the tilting mechanism on the new one gets set when you turn on the guitar so when you turn it on make sure the guitar is level (for ps3) (for xbox 360 i assume the guitar is always on so i guess make sure it is level when you plug it in or when you start up the game / system..)

Well I guess if you alt strum it should be easier with a pick because you can hold the pick with index finger and thumb and strum up and down really quickly.

I have the same issue with my replacement RB guitar. I just play with the guitar vertical all the time so the overdrive just kicks in as soon as I play the white notes. I find I dont miss notes shaking the damn thing like a retard. 🙂

If you don't save your overdrive how do you coordinate it with other band members? I thought the point was to all overdrive at the same time so you get the six star rating..?

Its doable, you just needs a heavy gauge pick. While the feel of the strum is *much* better than a GH2 strum, which is nothing more than a clicky button, its not all the way there either.

For some songs, like "next to you" "ride the lightning" and such on hard mode I use a heavymetal guitar pick. Workd great and now the skin is finally growing back on my index finger. 🙂
