It's a Sony STR-DE515. I just tried turning it on and it's stuck in "Protect" mode. I tried turning it on and off several times with no luck. It appears to be dead. :( Recommend me a cheap one that's 5.1 ready. An old model is fine since I can probably get it used on ebay. It doesn't need to have a built in encoder since I already bought an external for my old one. Just 5.1 imputs....

LOL...Mine did the exact same thing, and when I complained, you still preached how good Sony equip was and described your setup.

Go to Circuit City and try to find an Onkyo TX-SR600. They might still have some in stock, display model or even a couple closed box's laying around. Should be about $250; and spend the $30 on a 3-yr. No worries then.

Bah, the reciever was 7 years old and I usually leave it on 24/7. It probably overheated or something........

My friends receiver died three times (some RCA) before Rat Shack would give him a new one. They tried to exchange it with a display model on top of that -- the bastards. :|

That sucks dood. Sony blows goats in terms of reliability. They have the highest NIB defective rate of any electronics manufacturer, and they're not even the biggest manuf. either. Every Sony product my family has owned is now non-working, or partially working. I will never purchase another Sony product again.

Lucky you. We have a 27" Sony (non-functional) my parents use as a stand for another TV, a 13" Sony tv that we threw away 6 years ago, 2 identical CD/casette boomboxes with broken CD players, and a Sony receiver that functions as a paperweight in the garage somewhere. My parents were huge fans of Sony back in the day but they've learned some expensive lessons since then.
