My Radeon VE is a POS!

I'm running Windows 2000, Celly 333, 256 Meg Ram and a Radeon VE (Retail). The card can't even run Counter-Strike at 640/480! What gives? My TNT2 Ultra runs CS just fine, and I am sitting wondering why I forked out $75 bucks for this card when it can't even do what a four year old card can do.

Any suggestions?

I am running OpenGL with the latest OpenGL drivers from MS. Windows 2000 service pack 2, DirectX 8.1.

Really? The Celly 333 runs CS just dandy (average 50 fps) at 640/480 with the TNT2 Ultra.

If you can get a Radeon LE 32MB DDR - (OEM version) they are much better than the VE for gamming...........similiar price.

actualyl I think the VE has some things disable on it that would make it better for gaming if it was enabled. It was meant more for business then gaming.

Radeon VE to Radeon is like TNT2M64 to TNT2Ultra.
Check out the spec, VE has fewer texture pipelines, half memory bus, etc like TNT2M64.

If you want cheap and good performance dual output card, Radeon 7500 is the choice.
oem is about $120 now.

Turn off Truform. It is enabled by default in the new CS but the Radeon doesn't have the power to run Truform. I'm not exactly sure how to disable this but there's a switch from CS - search google I'm sure you'll find it.

Also, the VE only has a 64 bit memory bus as opposed to the 128 bit memory bus that's found on other Radeons.

Everybody it's the damn truform thing...check out Rage3D's forums...a lot of people with normal Radeons were complaining. Turns out that the new CS patch enables truform by default which results in a horrible performance degradation.

HI,
I am not a big gamer but there is a overclock prog at I believe at rage 3d...it is a tweak program. It will intergrate itself into the ATI settings tab options. I ran final reality ...not the best benchmark , but
I was able to overclock the VE to 200/200 with no problems. I only have a
OC duron700 but want TV out. I will add a dvd player this X,mas for the kids. This prog has other custom settings...try at own risk, but I had no problems.
Sounds like you need more cpu power. I also ran Q3 arean at 32 bit and had no problem....I never owned a GF3 so I cannot make a comparison. My
dvd setup I will post later. The VE from what I hear is a weak gamer card
but for what I want so far its OK for me.
I hope this helps ;-)
