I ordered a Radeon 8500 LE 128 MB vid card from Newegg.com. Unfortunately it's stock clocking is 250/200 core and mem respectively. I can get it up to 300/240 no problem. I spent $119 on it shipped. Did I get a very good deal? The card performs well enough I guess, but would it have been better to get a 64 meg model that has RAM that's more overclockable? I think the RAM it has now is 5 ns Hynix crap. It kinda makes me mad. I've tried flashing the BIOS like some have suggested, but that just makes the screen all garbled, so I just switch it back (good thing I backed up my old bios and know how to write flashing commands into autoexec.bat, eh?). Tell me what you people think. I already emailed Newegg about returning the card (since it's advertised as 250/230) or getting a different one. I'm kind of flustered about this whole thing. I was hoping for the 3.6 or even 4 ns RAM. :(

"i've read at rage3d that some le are clocked at 175 even"

Holy crud. Might as well sell it as a regular Radeon 32 MB DDR. :frown:

well, this is why you dont get the LE version...

my radeon 8500 came clocked at 300/275 and OCs to 319/325 (core/mem)

and it was only 40 dollars more for the 128mb version that i purchased...

Don't worry about the speed too much cause sometimes it's the chip that counts.

For example Geforce 3 beats a Geforce 4 in many ways..

Geforce 3 is @ 175/200

Geforce 4 MX440 is at 275/200

Well, if I got a card that was different than advertised, I'd return the one they gave me. From what I've heard , Newegg is a good company, so hopefully they'll exchange it.

I DO have to agree with "Mr DudeMan". DON'T by an LE. I bought one back in January (refurbished too), and it only runs stable at 230/230.

You DO get what you pay for.

I emailed them, and the next day they called me and offered a replacement or a refund. I took the refund and as soon as my checking account is credited the money, hello GeForce 4 Ti 4200. :p Newegg's one helluva company. :)

My AIW 7500 came with 5ns hynix memory. The bulk oem 8500le's were shipping with 3.3 hynix ram for $95 from Newegg, awesome deal. Check at Rage3D next time before you buy a Radeon from Newegg to get an idea of what is shipping.
