My radar detector is a radar detector detector.

Whenever I pass a car with a radar detector, my Escort 8500 beeps out a POP warning. Does anyone else get this?

I used to have a Bel 985 and when I first got my Escort 8500 I ran them side by side and my 8500 gave constant POP warnings. After removing the Bel, the POP warnings disappeared, so I know that it's the Bel giving off POP signals.

Is POP radar a new band of radar?
POP is not a new band or frequency of radar. It is an ultra-fast, instant-on method of radar gun operation using existing radar frequencies. Radar guns operating in POP mode can get a speed reading of a target vehicle so fast that most radar detectors will not consistently signal an alert. At this time, there are very few radar guns in service in the U.S. capable of POP mode operation.

The Passport 9500i, Passport 8500 X50 and Passport 7500S each have a selectable POP feature, so POP mode radar detection can be switched on or off as desired. You may notice an increase in Ka-band false alerts when POP mode radar detection is switched on.

well pop guns sound like a bummer for drivers. but, people simply need to stop speeding. follow a simple rule and use radar detectors responsibly- never go more then 15 over. period. you dont need a radar detector if you stay under 10 over, and if youre going more then 15 over there is no detector that will save you every time. detectors really only cover that small 5mph window between 10 and 15 over, so for that reason its also best to not spend a great deal on them either. $150 will buy you a solid detector that for the most part will just let you know where cops sit and when they are taking speed checks. they are much more useful around your area where you drive everyday, once you get into towns you are unfamiliar with the effectiveness of radar detectors drops off significantly. be smart about it

I know what POP is.... why is it beeping when I pass another radar detector?

it shoudltn be just pop. supposedly many "cheap" detectors can trigger other detectors. i just turn the volume down low and know when to pay attention and when to ignore the alaerm. (ie few traffic, straight road, etc)

Was searching for reasons why some radar detector keeps detecting other detectors and came across this thread. Yeah this actually doesn't really explain why the beeping happens...

This seems more likely:

"it shoudltn be just pop. supposedly many "cheap" detectors can trigger other detectors. i just turn the volume down low and know when to pay attention and when to ignore the alaerm."

Turning on the auto mode or reducing the sensitivity seems to work though.
