From reading some of the reviews about the XP-120, I thought it would be difficult to install. I got it installed in less than 5 minutes, with no problems whatsoever. The only issue I had with it, was the fact that as I installed it, some of the capacitors on my motherboard bent ever so slightly. Other than that it was a cinch. This baby cools like a dream and with the L1A installed and connected to the 5V connector on the Zalman multi-connector it is virtually silent. I mean I have to stick my face next to it to hear it.
When I first installed everything, it sounded like a tornado in my case. I couldn't figure out what was wrong, I thought for sure it was the Tagan and that I should have listened to everyone who said get the SeaSonic. Oh man there goes $87, but then I realized that it was my case fans making the loud racket. I couldn't understand it, they were never that loud with the Antec TruePower. Then I realized that the TruePower comes with molex connectors that are made specifically for the fans and the Tagan lacks these. I assume that the fan molex connectors were either 5V or 7V connectors which reduced the speed and the noise.
So I disconnect the case fans completely and see what my temps would be @ idle. This is when I discovered that the Tagan is virtually silent, cool. Well my temps turned out a little higher than with the fans on (38C cpu and 39C ambient, compared to 30C and 31C before), but the noise was drastically reduced. This is so cool, I'm going to by a couple more L1A's and run them at 5V, to replace the Antec fans and then the hunt for silence will be complete for me, until I get my 6800GT and Artic Silencer, which should be here next week.
Thanks for all of the help everyone gave me, I and my ears greatly appreciate it. Now I can enjoy a movie or two before I hit the sack and not have to worry about getting up to turn off my PC.
Thanks again,
DelVonte
Oh and I highly recommend EndPCNoise.com and HeatsinkFactory.com, they both have excellent silent solutions and HeatsinkFactory has the XP-120 for about $40 cheaper than newegg.
