ok.. i recieved the Q9400 from intel's retailedge.

it's currently sitting in an intel DG33TL motherboard with bios 517.

I'm running vista 64 ultimate.

I realized I had a problem when i tried running optimized seti code for the SSE4.1 instruction set. All my work units kept erroring out.
I originally thought it might be the code until i ran cpuz (ver 1.51) and it said that I only had up to an SSSE3 enabled processor. it's stepping A, revision R0 according to cpuz

Nothing is overclocked on this board and I have all updates for vista.... I'm running the SSE4.1 optimized code on 8 other computers so I know it's not the code.

does anyone have any ideas or is my cpu just fubared.
on the same note... the DP45SG motherboard that was in the package deal was messed up too (or maybe it was just this Q9400 screwing it up)

:(

mmm... maybe a bios update for motherboard will solve that?
But yea, I'd call customer support and get an RMA.

I already have the latest bios for this board... which isn't that recent to begin with :(

the sad thing is that this proc was sitting in the box for 6 months :(

Does the G33 support SSE4.1? Something to consider, chipsets can support CPUs without supporting the whole feature set (ie C1E).

Do you have a link to an intel spec sheet that says it supports SSE4.1? I can't find anything on intel's site that says what SSE instruction sets it supports.

Thanks, I've been trying to find that level of detail since they switched the site all around. I hate how the compare chart doesn't have all that stuff anymore!
