I feel for ya...same thing happened to my rig in September 2002. I didnt know what was wrong with the PC until I took everything apart like 3 weeks after the fact and saw that the power connectors on the mobo had burned out.🙁

Hence the cause of the short.
 
You can save it. All you need is some solder, soldering iron and wire strippers. Actually seen this done before. Strip all the wires and solder them to the underside of the board to the corresponding place on the mobo.
