My pussy's being a dick

So my cat of about a year now is being totally brutal to my new roommate's cat. Hissing, slashing. Running away and hiding all the time when he's not being aggressive. The new cat's actually kinda chill and trying to just check out the place, but my cat is being quite aggressive. Is there anything I can do to speed up there's move from hostility to dry humping each other?

Update
I emailed my friend, the cutest cat lady you'll ever meet (she has about a dozen cats) and she told me the following, if anyone cares:
it takes time...
keep them seperate, in their own safe place...
you can let them talk it out from under a door to one another.
then when you are home give them supervised together time...talk sweet to them both and dont get angry if they are hissing and scold them...it just feeds into their mood. be happy and give them lots of love.
they have this stuff at pet stores called feliway.
its a diffuser that you cant smell but that makes the kitties relax in new environments and with new animals.
you can try that.
see how they respond seperately to catnip...
if it makes them happy little crackheads..try giving it to them both when you are letting them "visit" each other.
but like i said...mainly it just takes time.

**whatever you do dont let them fight it out while you are not there!! this could cause one too start bullying the other and this is NEVER a good beginning.

: )

good luck!!

UPDATE 2

They're getting along so much better now. My cat (the one with the tux) is still bratty/hissy at time but, now, they can be in the same room together without freaking out.

AWESOME

If you can stick them both in their respective carry cages, then put them face to face, but just apart, and let them check each other out without the carrying on and running away, that might help?

Sounds similar to something that sent Vick to prison.

Leave them in a room with no food for a week, only one cat will survive

Vick was sent to prison for locking up two pussies in close proximity to each other so they can get used to one another?

load them up with catnip. might just get him in a different frame of mind so he can chill for a bit and realize they aren't enemies.

You should have kept them in separate room for days, maybe weeks, and swapped the rooms once in a while. You need to go back and do that. Their relationship is currently full of negative interactions. Best to start from scratch and let them build up trust.

I don't think cats dry hump though. Maybe you need a dog.

Hmm, that's what a good friend told me.. But I didn't really have much to do with their introduction to each other - i come home one day and there's a new cat - her sitting on the couch and my cat under the couch, hissing.

Seriously - they just need some bud, a couple of 40s, shoot the shit a bit and just relate to each other, know what I'm sayin?

If only it were that easy!

Oh yeah, there was a major brawl. My brilliant idea of locking them in the same room backfired, my cat kicked the newbies ass.. I should be proud but the little girl's terrified now.

That was the exact wrong thing to do. Your friend's email was spot on. Go back and do it right.

Nothing anyone sensible suggested here was along those lines...what possessed you to do that?

Best thread title ever?! Haha

I dislike cats. Mostly because they are all pretty much dicks. Dogs FTW.

"Tough love" was how I was raised, figure the cats would piss and moan for a bit then sit back and complain about me over a drink.

That did not happen. My cat hasn't left my room while the new cat roams freely. My cat's just a wanna be thug - got into one brawl, even won, but now he's in hiding.
