My PSP 3000 won't connect to the internet anymore

I haven't used it in months, but I'm going out of town overnight and I wanted to see if I could play one of those FF games that are on sale at the PS Store.

So I charged it up and tried to connect to my home wireless network. No go - it just repeatedly says "exchanging information" before saying that it can't connect.

So I tried to connect through the PS3. Even though I'm standing right in front of it the PSP says it can't detect it.

Is the thing just broken, or what?

Did you recently change the security on your wireless AP? The PSP won't do WPA2, so if you recently changed your security strength, that would be the problem.

Yeah, I got a WPA2 router a while ago.

Is that why I can't connect to the PS3 directly either?

The PS3 supports WPA2 (make sure you have the latest firmware installed), but I know for sure the PSP doesn't. Bump it down to WPA, if they connect, you found your problem. 😉

And when you say "directly," do you mean wired? Wireless security won't have any affect on a wired connection.

Then I used a usb to connect, and it lets me remote play, but really all I want to do is get on the internet to the PS store and check out if I can play those FF games on the PSP and I can't do that.

Oh well - old tech, I guess. Mayeb the place I'm headed to tonight has WPA.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. If you are not able to get your PSP to connect to your wireless AP, you won't be able to see your PS3. Do you know how to go into your router and adjust the wireless security from WPA2 to WPA?

The place I was at did have WEP, and I was abel to connect... obly to find out that the discount of FF games didn't apply to the PSP.

I have this router:

I didn't know you could change security settings.

Don't set your router to WEP - I was just kidding. If you set it to WEP, you might as well just turn off all security.

Set to WPA1, your PSP should work fine with that.
