I've been playing Rayman: Legends along with Infamous:Second Son and I just can't help but notice these noisy triggers. Do I have a bad controller...Anyone else experiencing this?

i've never owned a playstation controller for longer than six months of light use. my primary consoles have always been nintendo, and then x360 for its lifetime, but i've owned all the playstations and i cannot tell you how much i hate the controller. it's uncomfortable and breaks if i breathe on it. good luck replacing it.

That sounds defective. I had it happen with a few of my 360 controllers (along with the space bar on my current keyboard), but it took a LONG time to develop on those controllers. I'd play heavily, and it might take a year or more before I'd get that happening.

If I push slowly and at an angle, I can make my L2 button make a squeak. Definitely not something I've noticed while playing though.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJBkFnZ-pBY It appears this problem is pretty widespread after some research. My buttons don't clank or stick, but just make a squeaky plastic sound. (I won't be trying the method in the video)

I really like the feel of the DS4 but it seems Sony skimped on the quality. Especially in comparsion to the DS1 or the XBOX 360 controller.

Nope...mine are fine (I have two). I also find the DS4 to be of high quality FWIW.

No squeaks, but the coating on a thumbstick of one of my DS4s peeled on one edge and started to wear away. I haven't used it that much, so I don't know what the deal is with that.

Dualshock 4 is a huge improvement over the DS3. I have not had any squeaking or other problems to speak of. Well other than abysmal battery life..

Turns out it is my controller itself. A buddy has 2 DS4 controllers and neither of his trigger buttons make that squeaky sound. My trigger buttons work just fine, but I'm OCD and feel slightly cheated.

Debating on buying a new controller and returning the old one in its place.

I read wide spread issues with the DS4 and I'm glad to report my two DS4's are rock solid (one is dedicated to PS4 other to PC).

As a victim of BLOD, I'm glad my controllers are solid.

Possibly try to contact Sony first, but I know from first hand experience Sony is pretty hard to deal with.. Not to mention they'll probably want me to pay shipping and won't crossship.

But more than likely, I'll either just live with this minor squeaky sound or exchange at a/the retailer and let them deal with Sony.

What retailer are you going to exchange at? How would that exchange work?

Mine has a sticky l1 trigger. The ps3 controller I have is half broken but still works and as light as it was I'm glad it held up. I don't think my ds4 squeeks as I haven't been paying attention. I don't know if I would bother calling Sony now as I've had it since launch and they take a while, don't cross ship.

I did buy the additional 2 year warranty on my ps4.

All my buttons are fine regarding release, no stickiness, or rubber peeling which is why I'm partially hesitate to return it.

But when I pick my buddys controllers up and both are silky smooth it makes me want to return it;)

Wal-Mart, if I do it. I would go buy a new controller and take mine back to the store for a refund. I wouldn't recommend doing this on old worn out controllers as it's unethical. But in my case my controller is literally new and I spent my hard earned money on something that's not quite right and never was to begin with.

Let us know when you do it. I've personally never explored this part of buying and returning something. I remember back when the Xbox 360 came out, one of my controllers had a loose stick and I didn't know what to do with it, so I just left it in the dust to rot and bought a new one :p

Could have saved $50

You've never explored it because it's fraud. He's still within the warranty period so he should be going through Sony, not lying to Walmart. It's not their fault

When I suggested something like this years ago with a game, the mods stepped in. We don't need people teaching others how to cheat the return system.

The only time I go to the retailer is if it is within their return period. If they give me 90 days like my best buy rewards elite does then I can go to them in that time and claim the controller is not working properly and exchange it. Otherwise I feel I am mostly out of luck unless Sony or Microsoft or whoever makes it will warranty it.

You might be able to fix it too. Then sell your solution for $1.50 on the interwebs.

Hmm, didn't know it was fraud. I don't see how he's lying to Walmart though, if his controller really is squeaky.

Because he didn't buy it there. He wants to buy a new one and return his which came with the system in the packaging that the new controller came in. If he had got it from Wal-Mart originally then returning it to the store would have the same effect as they would refund him or give him a gift card. Wal-Mart would take your whole system though if the controller was broken.

Maybe it's technically defective, but it seems like a problem that is just as likely to happen to your next controller as this one. I had an xbox360 controller do the same thing and I just carefully applied a drop of 3-in-one oil to the top edge where I thought the hinge probably is. After working it back and forth a few times the squeak stopped. Maybe that's not the smartest thing to do because I didn't know what that kind of oil would do to the internal circuitry of the controller, but I was willing to risk it. Then again, I always try the self-repair first on every problem because I hate going through the trouble of exchanging.
