I completely messed up an exam in vector calculus (the class after calc 3). But my professor said I could retake the exam. Why would she allow me to retake the exam but nobody else? I'm considering being an moron and turning down her offer because I don't think it's fair to the other people in the class.

How do you know nobody else is allowed to retake it?

The class is small enough to know something like that.

if you messed up on it, retake it. If she wanted the others to retake it, she would ask them. There is nothing unprofessional going on here. Professors have a lot more privledges and "rights" than a typical HS teacher.

Well, okay.

As long as you're operating within the rules she establishes, there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to retake it.

i'd imagine that she wouldn't want you to tell your classmates that you have been extended this privilege, so keep it to yourself and take advantage of it.

good luck!

Dude, why ask questions?

A professor once let me submit an assignment to make up for getting 16% on the one and only test in a mathematics class. Thank Vishnu for my school rep as a good guy!

I got a 98 on the first exam, so maybe she thought I was sick or something when I took it. But I told her I wasn't.

Maybe she thought you're a good student, and did abnormally badly? Maybe she's assuming something on that day was affecting your ability to concentrate on the test.... Or maybe she took pity on you because of your grade.

Clearly she thinks you can do better, so she's giving you another shot at it. Nothing wrong with that.

Take it!

Who cares? If she's hot, then you get a better score AND sex!

I've had teachers just give me second chances, but it was mostly because the whole "I know you took 2 mins out of your busy day to do this, but I want you to re-do this with MORE time..."

she knows you have talent, but that you were having a bad day? Her job is to have you end up with a mark reflecting your ability, not reflecting your performance on a bad day. So maybe you should be studying your ass off right now, and then take the make up exam. :)
