my prof is a Nutcase.. he forwarded something that had an SSN...

I am part of the Bio and Env.sci list server.. and the prof forwarded something that has this poor girls SSN in it..

well its not his fault totally, cause it came from somewhere else, but someone's name, SSN and addy are on it..

ugh!

got to email him and tell him.. but the damage is already done.

i believe thats happened a few times here at UCSD, too.

when theres a job posting meant for a specific student, the person's name and SSN are posted.

My RA did that for the much of our dorm. We had a lunch fast signup(aka, we go eat at BK or Subway rather than at the dining hall on Weds., and some charity gets 5 bucks a person or some such deal), and the dorm with the highest percentage got a goldentee machine. So, he sent out emails asking for people to sign up with your name and school id, which is just your SSN. So, the day before signups were over, he sent out an email with everyone's name who had signed up, but he just copied and pasted from the original email. So, everyone who signed up had their SSN sent out to the entire dorm. At least we got the golden tee.

Happens a fair amount. You can't really help it when the school is using your SSN as your ID number.

I raised a stink about it two years ago and had them change mine to some random numbers. I had just gotten $1500 in fraudlent charges on my Visa so I was feeling paranoid.

There must be 25,000 people with access to my social security number, and nothing bad has ever happened because of it.
