My processor runs very hot

I have an E4300 that I have had for about 2 years. It has always run very hot for some reason. I even bought a new heatsink/fan to try to get it better, but it made very little difference, I think it brought it down by 3-5 degrees.

Idle both cores run about 50 degrees. I'm about to buy a new CPU soon and am wondering if this is just luck of the draw with a processor? Or could teh Mobo have anything to do with it?

I'm thinking of an E8500 or 8400, but if I am unable to OC it, I'm not sure I would get one.

1. What are your load temps?
2. What heatsink?
3. (edit) Are you overclocking?

Open the side of your case and see if that lowers temps dramatically. If so, you need better/more case fans and probably some wire management.

load temps are about 65-70. When I first OC it, it would get to the upper 70s.

Just opened the case and actually noticed teh fan not running fast at all. Going to check on that, used to work fine with the same problems, but I need to check this.

and temps went from 51/53 to 46/49

550-600 rpm is critical speed for mine. There's something wrong with your fan. If you change it, you should check the heat sink as well, perhaps there's something wrong with the TIM as well.

Stock Intel coolers run about 2K when it's cool, mine ramped up to about 3-3.3K under load when I used it. Try a diff. fan header or a molex-to-3-pin converter.
