I think it probably happened when I logged on from a station at the Radisson in Seattle. I made sure that I logged off when I left but somehow it was hijacked anyhow.

It was torture for 4 days for things to get sorted out with Yahoo. Their email support is deplorable. I explained that my credit cards/ebay/personal info was being compromised but they would only reply once a day and not be helpful at all.

I called their customer care line. Got disconnected 3 times, was hung up on by a voice telling me to call during the weekdays even though their customer care is open 6am-5pm PST everyday. I finally got connected to a person after a half hour wait during a lucky connection who all of a sudden told me that he couldn't hear me anymore after getting my story. Called back again, got hung up on and finally got someone. They verified the secret phrase that I had put in but that was changed. In the end I had to dig up a very old credit card number that I used with Wallet about 8 years back. Once they verified the last 8 digits I got my account back.

The guy who stole the account tried to get into my credit card account and reset the password. He stole my ebay id and I had to use ebay LiveHelp to get back my access.

Moral of the story is that if you use a web based email account, make sure that you download all your mail once in a while using a client app.

It appears the machine at the Radisson was compromised. How did the Yahoo problem create problems with your credit cards/ebay ?

All my credit card statements go to that address. The guy tried to log on to wamu with my credentials and when he couldn't he tried to reset the password. I fortunately had changed the email and password on it.
The ebay account was changed. He had reset that password and logged on using the direct link that was mailed to him. He had set a new email on ebay and had changed the password that I had to have reverted back. I also in the end changed the email address for it since I don't trust this yahoo account anymore. I'm sorting through the mails that I'd want to keep and then plan to close this email account.

Ew! I treat those public access hotel PCs like a $5 whore.

Glad you got things corrected. Did you use the same secret phrase on any other accounts? The thief might try to get other passwords using the secret phrase.
