there was a stupid power surge at my house and i had my 200gb Seagate on my USB 2.0 External drive.

I smelt this buring smell and low & behold, it turned out to be my PCB that died.

I would really really appreciate it if somebody could direct me to the correct direction regarding how to obtain a replacement PCB?

Model: ST3200822A
Firmware 3.01
Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 200GB.

Buy the same model hard drive, swap the boards, and then RMA the drive.

Shrug. I don't see why not.

By swapping the new control board to your old drive you retain your data, and RMA the new drive with the old board and get it replaced. Costly, but not as bad as data recovery service.

yes, you are correct sir.. it doesn't do jack.. actually, it short circuits the entire system and it wont' turn on when i have it connected to my PSU... when i disconnect it, the system runs fine, but when it's connected, my comp wont' even boot up.

nevertheless, i'm gonna go buy the same hard drive and swap the PCB and return it.

i don't know how it's due to my own negligence... it's not like this is my first installation of a psu... nor did i do anything different from my normal procedure... i don't know how the drive got messed up, but it did...
