*Her and baby appear to be doing fine*

My wife had a wreck yesterday afternoon. She ran a red light and hit a car. The old man she hit was OK (thank goodness). He didn't even have to go to the hospital. His car didn't look all that bad, either. My pregnant wife, on the other hand, was kind of freaking out. Thankfully, she went to the hospital. She's been in several wrecks in the past and did not go to the hospital at the time of the wreck. She always ended up going some time after the adrenaline wore off, and she realized something was hurting. Anyway, baby and wife seem to be fine. They did an ultrasound and everything checked out OK. Thank goodness for air bags!!

She was driving alone when it happened and obviously didn't notice the light was red. She slammed on the brakes when she realized it was red and when she saw the other car coming into her lane. She said she threw up her hands and screamed, which was a good thing, because otherwise, the air bags could have easily broken her arms or hands. There was even a good Samaritan that helped her out of the car and called me back when her cell phone died. I was freakin' too when she called me up and told me she was in a wreck, and then the phone just dies!!!!! We don't have any idea who the guy was, but he got her out of the car and took care of her until the Paramedics arrived. I guess there are still a few good people left in the world.

I hope all that makes sense. I'm tired and may just be babbling. I need some rest.........

The pics are rather large (for you dial-up users - I'm a dial-up user myself). 400k or so. (you don't have to look if you don't want to!)

The camera I used was a Kodak DX3700. We got it for Christmas last year.

The car looks to be totalled.

That's one jacked up Celica.

The winshield crack on the passenger's side is due to the airbag detonation.

They explode quite forcefully, since they have to be fully inflated when you hit them.

That's why you don't want to be too close to them, although it's better you bounce off the airbag than the windshield they still can hurt you since they hit so hard.

Glad to hear she's OK, though, modern vehicle engineering is a wonderful thing.

I wouldn't be surprised if she was ticketed, but under the circumstances that's the least of your worries.

The bad news is, you're car's a wreck. The good news is, your wife and expected kid aren't. :)

If she's been in "several wrecks in the past," it sounds like your wife needs some serious driving instruction. There's more to know than just where the pedals and steering wheel are.

Good luck and good health to you, your wife and your family, present and future. :)

I think that's from the passenger side airbag deplying. She did sort of end up on that side of the car, though. She had her seat belt on, but still kind of slid to the side. I don't think that she could have caused that, though. That's just my opinion.

She may also need her vision checked.

Due to a degenerative cornea disease my vision has gotten progressively worse over the last few years. I had several wrecks, & was beginning to wonder WTF my problem was. Turns out I was basically going blind, but I didn't know it. I got to the point where I quit driving entirely because I didn't feel safe.

With contacts, I feel completely safe again.

OK, That can be fixed unless the frame is damaged. A new front clip, steering column, windshield and repack o the passanger air bag and it's good to go. If they do total it. I'll buy it for $100. I want a good project car to work on. lol

That does sound kind of bad - *several wrecks....*. :( However, she has usually been the passenger and not the driver in the other *several wrecks*. Just bad luck, I guess. She's really not that bad of a driver, I promise! The last wreck she was in she was rear ended because an 18 wheeler pulled out in front of several cars - and then took off after the wreck occurred. And the two wrecks prior to that that I can think of she was a passenger, but still got bruised or banged up.

Thanks for the wish of good luck and health. :)

If your wife had been a 17 year old kid, and this story had been told in the first instead of third person, I have a feeling the majority of the replies would say something quite different than "I'm glad you're ok".

Good that no one was injured, though. You're insured, right?

how far along is she?

I was in an accident at 14 weeks pregant thrown into the steering wheel at 35-40 miles an hour. My son is just fine. Babies are tougher later on as the organs and things are already developed.

Good to hear mom and baby are ok though.

She's 13 weeks, and the impact was at approximately 30 - 35 mph - very similar situation. She's sore right now, of course, but other than that she's doing just fine!!

To answer a couple of other questions.

Yes, we're insured.

Thanks for the kind replies.

Well just keep track w/ the docs I know for me it was the dumb ER doc that caused the most damage. They had troubles hearing the heartbeat (I had heard it like 2 weeks before the accident) and he said as he left the room (even though he had ordered an ultrasound) "well if there had been a heartbeat to be found I would have found it" I went into shock. I was 17 and total horrified. I was out west visiting family and was in Vegas, had almost killed 2 little old ladies crossing the strip when the car behind me rear-ended me and now he was telling me my baby was dead. I was not in good condition.

Anyhow, ultrasound showed baby was fine. However I have permanent neck damage. The time of the accident my neck was straight, they could not guarantee w/ treatment it would not harm the baby so I didn't do anything. By the time the baby was born my neck was curved the wrong way and I have 2 discs out of place 2mm apart. Anyhow My son is now almost 9 and perfectly healthy and I still have a neck that hurts now and then but better he is safe and fine.

I know technology has advanced but I would research everything before she gets any kind of treatment if she needs it to make sure it won't harm the baby.

Just my .02

you may want to buy her a slow, underpowered, non-turbo volvo when she starts driving your kid around. Nothing sporty. My sister-in-law drives like a psychopath with her kid in the car. Her husband is a sherriff and the "brass pass" has turned her original bad driving into downright scary driving.

Glad to hear your wife is ok though.
