Looks like I'm going to have to shut down F@H totally for a few months until I can get caught up. It's either F@H or food money now, so I think I want to eat. Sorry F@H.

Edit: Btw, my quad-GPU rig draws 400W at the wall, for $43/mo.

It's too bad, I was hoping to get the crunching done during the winter months, and stop it during summer due to AC costs. Oh well. At least I was in for the Dec race.

The more GPU's on a box, the more efficient totally. Motherboard, hard drives PSU, case..

And most motherboards can only handle 2 double width GPU's (the only ones I get for cool and quiet cooling)

Think about it this way, what is the most cost efficient way to get over 50k ppd out of a box ? One I7 at 4 ghz, and 2 460 gtx cards. $600 for those, and then $500 for the rest of the box (90% eff PSU)
You should try putting all the GPUs in as few machines as possible. Just give it a go.

I know the feeling. Put the overclocked 1055T in the basement during the winter (runs a 9600GT), the thing costs about 23$ a month to run. BlecH!

Ok, this sucks. I don't pay for heat in my apt. It's forced-hot-water, there's a boiler in the basement. Anyways, I normally turn my heat down to 65F, and leave the windows open an inch or two, because F@H heats up my apt pretty badly, even during the winter.

So last night, when I shut off F@H on all my rigs, I set my heat to 70F+, and woke up this morning and it was below 60F in my apt. Rather chilly. Granted, it's cold outside, but I touched my heaters, and neither one was even moderately warm.

So either the boiler has gone out, or my heat is FUBAR in my apt.

Until I get this straightened out, I've re-started F@H on my one machine at least, to try to warm up this place. Heck, I'm going to push my GPU to 840.

Edit: Maint guy got here. Apparently, the heater pipe froze, right under where my AC cutout is where my AC is. The cold air came in around the AC and froze the pipe. He took a heatgun and warmed it up, and got the heat flowing again. He's coming back with some insulation to put around the AC.

I know the feeling Mark. I tried running some DC stuff for about 2 months but my wallet just could not handle it month to month. I was $600 over at the end of the year with only 2 months. Just couldn't keep it up sometimes I wonder hwo you guys do it.

what's the cost to run the heater? maybe you'll end up paying the same running F@H instead! 😉
