When I click to open a program or do anything really, I hear my power supply (the fan, that is) rev up and down as the computer is working. Is that normal?? I don't want to HAVE to get a new case, but I don't want to damage my components cuz of the cheap Generic case and 250 PS I have running my system(in sig). What should I do?

unless it has a variable control for the fan id get a new one. no reason to run a generic pos for such a nice machine :) enermax 300w or 350w would be nice.

Yeah, I upgraded to an Antec 300w PS from my generic 250, and now I have no problems. Before, I was the same as you, I could hear the fans changing speeds whenever I did anything.

CRAP!!!! Now the wife is really gonna be hot, I gotta get something else!!! SHes gonna hit the roof, but its better than ruining a good system over a crappy PS....

It sounds like a variable controlled fan to me...Obviously as you do more things the PS has to provide more juice, it then generates more heat and thus the fan speeds up rpms to deal with the thermal gain.

If you have no power issues, then it is fine...wait for a month or so and then you can convince the wife of it. My wife doesn' tlike this constant state of upgrading as well.

If it is plain annoying the reving of the fan that is, then just sit her butt down next to it and show her.

I have had several power supplies that sounded like a truck on a grade shifting gears every time I clicked or moved the mouse. It never caused a problem and in my opinion was only a matter of esthetics. The specs on power supplies are pretty loose when it comes to how tightly they regulate voltages, plus or minus 10%, so I wouldn't get too excited unless some other problem is indicated.
