my power supply died today

i was working on the computer and it just turned off then turned on and then turned off again and then i smelled something burning and stuff.

it was under warranty. i no longer have it.

i do however have another power supply that doesn't have enough leads on it to be usable.
 
The other day the PSU in the mail server at work died. It'd power up for a second and then power down. I took the box upstairs, unplugged everything, stuck the paperclip in to try and rule out the switch and plugged her in. It powered up and made a loud bang followed by smoke and the smell of burning plastic.

In conclusion, what balt said.

No real misfortune. I had the forsight to unplug the PSU from everything before doing my little test. I almost sh|t my pants when it blew, but aside from the PSU itself nothing was damaged.

I was lucky.
