EDIT: 12/23... My brother got to the SLC airport, and that flight was delayed about 2.5 hours and he just called me from Denver. They landed and ran to the gate... their plane from Denver to Detroit had not left yet, they were the last ones to get on... THEY MADE IT!!
Thanks everyone for the info you gave and the generosity as well. This will make my family's Christmas. Thank you all again.

I hope someone can help me:

My little brother is supposed to be flying from Salt Lake City to Detroit tomorrow.
However, months ago, he booked his flight on Frontier Airlines.
Their hub is in Denver where now, ~65,000 travellers are stuck.
The airport is going to reopen with limited amounts of flights leaving today but i am so worried he will not make it here at all.

I have been trying to contact Frontier but understandibly, all lines are busy.

Is there anything he can do to try and get another flight from SLC to somewhere else besides Denver?

I just need some brainstorm ideas here.

Most would not care if someone missed a flight, but he has been gone for a while and i am mainly trying to do this for my mom, dad and grandmother who are really missing him.

CLIFFS:
Brother needs to get from SLC to Detroit
Ticket is with Frontier Air... hub of Denver.
Need ideas to help him get home flying NOT through DENVER.

THanks.

Please help me. 🙂

If he can make it to Chicago, I'd be glad to pick him up and he can crash on my couch if need be. Hope he's okay with cats.

What was his itinerary? Im here Link

and its not showing any flights cancelled for Saturday. Since he bought his ticket months ago, that should get him some pull for getting a seat.

EDIT...

Im not seeing anything that would indicate him losing his seat as long as the flight is not cancelled.

No. 🙁
driving is not an option at all.

I just called the SLC airport... ALL frontier flights stop in Denver. 🙁

That is so very kind of you, but i don't think he would be able to make it to chicago.

There are thousands of Frontier pax still in Denver. Those passengers will be accomodated first.

The problem is that ALL (65,000) the people that are stuck there have priority before others.
I/he can check in online 24 hours prior to boarding which should help, but still.... i am not sure how bad the delays will be.

What are the limitations? He has to fly Frontier?

He could reserve a refundable itinerary on another airline in case his current one doesn't fly. If it does, just get a refund. BUT
-The last minute refundable fare may be expensive
-he has to request the refund before the backup itinerary departs

He should find out now, if they are going to bump him.

See if they will put him on a different airline to get him Denver.

If they will, your best bet is Northwest since they have a hub in both Minneapolis and Detroit.

Are you sure of that?

Normally, ticketed/confirmed passengers for a specific flight have priority. Any leftover seats are then 'up for grabs' for standby passengers. The rules might have changed for this crazy situation though . . .

I was thinking about that, but right now... there is no way he and his girlfriend could afford another airline ticket (especially refundable)... I was checking those and they are running in the thousands just because of the time of year.

That is a good idea though.

I called the SLC airport and spoke with someone who said that the folks that have been stranded for the past 2 days have priority first. 🙁

THANK YOU EVERYONE that has posted and given me some tips and ideas.

You have no idea how much this means to me.

They have priority over passengers with confirmed seats on flights that haven't departed yet? So they're going to bump everybody that has a flight into Denver to get people out? That's pretty hard to believe.

Never seen the show "Airline" before, eh?

Contact Frontier and ask if they will rebook them on a different carrier that will bypass Denver.

i tried that but came up short for two reason...
no phone line to Frontier is NOT busy (its been that way for the entire morning)
and also, ALL fights, i found, go through Denver. 🙁

Thank you though for the thoughts. 🙂
If someone can find some other phone number besides 800-432-1359, please let me know.
That is the MAIN # for Frontier.

nope, not true. People who have scheduled flights today have priority over people who have been stuck there. They've been saying that on all news stations today.

Wow, 65,000 travelers stuck!!!

Glad I'm not travelling anywhere this weekend.

This, combined with the lyrics "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas" - well I guess it's not irony. Poetic justice maybe?

well, I doubt fronteir will want to fly anyone to denver until they get their passangers stuck there out. Since he isn't flying until tomorrow, I would think that you should do two things. Call the frontier ticketing desk in SLC, check with them to see what they suggest. If they don't have any suggestsion then wait for tomorrow.... 24 hours is a long time the log jam may be negible by then.

Otherwise, the on the only thing I can think of is buying another ticket on another carrier....that will be $$$$$ tho.

see if Frontier will pay (I know it's busy, keep trying) for another airline. AA goes through Dallas/Fort Worth, so it would bypass...they might be willing to, since they want to avoid getting MORE people sitting in the airport
