My plan to beat my internet addiction!

Here is the plan so far:

1) No more visiting forums of any kind, unless it is some very very important computer question.
2) Internet only once a hour during the day, and that is to check email, Slashdot (even though I hate that website), and Fark.com
3) At work, internet only for work purposes.
4) After coming home from work, first thing is to eat dinner, do the dishes, clean my room and then go outside.
5) Stay outside for atleast 1 hour.
6) Come back and read a book. So I guess I need to buy a book first.

The problem is that I have to use a computer at work, and don't know if I will be able to hold back.

Final Analysis: Will not happen.

Yeah, but you get to blow all those hot guys all day. That must keep your mind off the computer, right?

I think you're going too far with no forums, seriously, that just won't happen

Instead, I'd eat dinner first, dishes, clean room, go outside, and any time left go on computer. Spend a half hour before sleeping for reading a book, if oyu pick some good books you'll see yourself increasing reading time from internet time.

Thats true. About the good book (not THAT good book!)

I took some time off to re read The Stand (unabridged edition) and I hardly missed it.

(And I'm sure no one missed me!) 😉

Good luck with that. One thing you might try if you're worried about your self discipline is to configure up "Parent's Friend" or similar software at home and at work (if that's within your discretion) and then let a friend change the password on you.

Granted, just as if a parent was trying this stuff, anything can be circumvented, but it helps to put something in the way that at least makes you pause and think about what you're doing when you start to deviate from your plan.

Just a suggestion. Having a plan is a good first step.

I would go for a more gradual approach. Either that or just cancel your cable/dsl connection, so you have to use dial up 🙂 I had to live in a hotel for 3 months (work) and all I had was dial up. That certainly cut back on my use!

No way, it can't be done. Once the internet has you there is no going back. Besides, why would you want a "life", it is so much more fun poting mocking comments about those who have a life....

sorry... I have not left my apartment all day... luckly my wife didn't either 😉
