*Screw the sony speakers/receiver...check below for other possibilites*

SONY KV27FS12 $587 w/ tax at a local B&M store
Toshiba SD1600 $150 after $50 off

And a Dreamcast to top it all off! :)

$1100 for speakers, receiver, sweet Wega 27incher. I'll be paying for the DVD and DC, not bad huh? Now I just have to manage to trick my parents into buying it for me...lol, I can't convince them, i will have to trick them this time! LOL

Ok, now get yourself a leather recliner and you'll never have to leave your house ;)

ltk007, screw the recliner, I have the sweetest couches ever produced! They are HUGE! SO FREAKING CUSHY AND LEATHER! 1 love seat and a 3 seat couch...oh, and don't forget the matching automan (how the fsck do you spell that? I know it's not spelled like the ottoman empire ;)).

MMMM... I love leather couches, especially the huge ones you can just sink into. Ok, now to make it perfect get a fridge and toilet built into the living room (or wherever you have the home theater). That makes the 3 day movie-a-thons so much easier ;)

Oh god no. The receiver might be sufficient, but for god sakes, get a bigger sub! Those Yamaha's dual 6in subs perform good for the price.

LOL, we converted you, eh zippy? :D

Can I recommend not getting a Sony DVD player? There're other brands out there that playback just as well, have more features (IE CDR playback, VCD) and are cheaper. Namely Toshiba and Pioneer.

Personally I've always bought Denon recievers. Excellent sound quality and so long as you don't buy the top-top-top-end, great price. Lots and lots of inputs and surround modes too. :D

konichiwa, yes, but when is my membership card coming? I'd like to show it off in school sometime this week.

By the way, I heard S-Link is great, so wouldn't it make sense to get a Sony DVD player to go with the Sony Wega? The Toshibas don't play VCDs or CDRs either, I thought you/seph said that the Dreamcast can play those two things? :)

How about the Pioneer DV333 DVD player? As for recievers, Denon always makes good stuff, yet some of them can be really, really expensive..

RE: the Dreamcast...it does play VCDs, but they're not standard, per se. They're encoded using a different method, so basically the only use it has is if you're ripping your own DVDs to VCDs...but if you want to go buy (or download...hehe) a VCD it most likely won't play on your DC. However I have seen a couple posts in the newsgroups lately of "DC-VCDs."

Sorry...but what in the hell is S-Link? Educate me...or gimme a link.

Onkyo TX-DS484 seems like a good reciever. They got a 4.27 rating at AudioReview.com and cost around $300. Might be cheaper someplace else since Crutchfield usually tends to be a bit more expensive. Still looking for speakers.

urbantechie, not enough. ;)

Maybe $400?

C'mon you guys, you couldn't have figured out my budget by seeing the prices on the receiver/speaker combos I've posted? ;)

The Kenwood HTB503 looks pretty good, I had an old thread like this one (except I hadn't decided on anything at all) and a two people highly recommended that setup, especially for the price.

ForeverSilky, actually, I was anally probed by Sonic the hedgehog last and he is making me his slave, so really I don't have a choice unless I want to get my insides shocked by the probe that he put in there. Sonic is such a cruel master......<gaahhhhhh my ass!>

So give us your budget...split it out, how much you want to spend on the TV, on the reciever, on the speakers, on the DVD.
