My Pioneer slot load DVD crapped in 4 months...

It started rejecting most of my DVDs (e.g. insert, spin-spin-spin..., eject) and with audio CDs it couldn't read past a certain point. It was so weird... it was playing Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas fine, then the next day I installed Mechwarrior Merceneries. Then after that it just crapped, even Nightmare Before Christmas gets rejected by the drive.

It's such a coincidence that I began suspecting that the copy protection on Merceneries killed it (probably Sony's SecuROM, I presume...). But nah, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.

Anyway, I just got a new Samsung 16X/48X DVD, so I spent some time dissecting the Pioneer to see what goes on inside a slot load. Had in very educational trip, but didn't figure out what was wrong. Probably the lens got misaligned or something, I reckon.

Anyway, that's my rant for the day. 🙂

Thats intresting. I say that because i have the same dvd drive and mine seems to now want to work the best. My friend is having problems to. Granted i've had mine for 3 years now, it still should be working fine, and its not. I am going to get a dvd burner maby someday, but i just wanted to confirm with you on this.
