My Pictures

Hello everyone.

I've installed an external hard drive, E: so that I'd have a place to store my digital pictures. However, on the start menu, unless I have "my Pictures" in the C:\Documents and Settings folder, I can't get access to it. In other words, I'm unable to link the "My Pictures" in the start menu, with the E:\ drive location.

Can anyone explain to me how to redirect the target of the "My Pictures," start menu shortcut, within Windows XP, to the E:\My Pictures directory?

i think there was a thread on this recently....seemed like some powertoys app lets you redirect those things

Download TweakUI from here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/...-839afb2a2679/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Open it up, expand the "Common Dialogs" option. Next, click on Places Bar. There are three radio buttons, Show default places, Hide places bar, and Customize places bar.

You should see one that says C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Pictures. You can type in: E:\My Pictures and then click on Apply. That will change the My Pictures folder from the standard location to the new E: drive location. You can also change the location of your desktop, My Docs and various other places. I love this nifty feature. I wish they gave you more options to choose from instead of the standard five. I saw a Vista screenshot and it looks like you can choose from serveral different ones. I'm happy about that.

you could try mounting the partition as an empty NTFS folder in the drive manager.

I don't understand what you mean?

The curious part is that I managed, somehow, to get My Music to hit E:\My Music. Why can't I get "My Pictures" to do the same?

I figured it out.

For anyone that needs to know how to do this, use the following tool:

It's easy and effective. Once you've made the change in the utility, however, you need to reboot before the change takes effect.
