Here - Props go to RossMAN for helping me get the domain and hosting.

Feel free to critique, complain, etc. This was my first time using a DSLR, I shot mainly in Aperture priority, and sometimes I forgot to correctly adjust my settings. I'm a newbie coming from a P&S camera. I am pleased with my pictures though, specifically the monkey looking into the distance, the Taj shots, and some others. The trip was awesome - definitely a picturesque place, and it's deep with history and culture.

The pictures look very similar to the ones I took when I was there several years ago (winter of 2004). Very similar path as well. I wish I had a dSLR when I went since I really wanted the telephoto. I wish I had as good weather as you did at the Taj Mahal. I should repost my pics some time.....

Was it just you and your gf?

It was me, my (ex:()girlfriend, and a mutual friend of ours. He's Indian, and we stayed with his family most of the time. Although just my gf at the time and I went to Jaipur and Bombay by ourselves. It was a mindblowing experience, my first true time out of the country.

I would like to see your pictures though.

PS: I think the pictures from the Taj look really really good. The weather LOOKS nice, but I'll tell you, 120 degree heat on that marble feels like you're cooking.

That's awesome that you got to stay with a family for a more authentic feel! I can only imagine....I was there in December after Christmas and the sky was smoggy overcast.

damn those pictures make me nostalgic. what did you think of India? People who have never seen something like the poverty there usually are shocked. But its funny how you see them smiling and looking happy even though they live in the slums. I'm from India, lived there for the first 12 yrs of my life and it still amazes me every time I go back (not often)

Similar here; lived there for the first 5 years of my life. The thing that gets me is when you are driving through a "slum" area and you look inside one of the "houses" there is a brand new large screen tv. The house might be one room, have no front door, but by god we are going to have a brand new 32 inch LCD tv in the house (or new computer with LCD screen or something)!! I always get a laugh out of that. You would think that if they had the money to get that TV maybe a front door might have been a better investment! Eh, to each there own i guess.

But nice pictures though.

Nice shots... I've only been to the southern part of India on business... Basically anything within a day's round trip drive from Bangalore... Beautiful country and people, and I do love the food... Luckily living in the Silicon Valley area we have a lot of Indian food options around here, but nothing beats the real thing... Would love to go back and take in more of the country, as I know I've only gotten the smallest taste of what it has to offer...

And yes, I too only had a little p&s camera the couple times I've gone. Bummed me out, but that's all I could manage at the time traveling light for business.. Only had film DLSR at the time, and it would have been just too much extra to manage.

It was at times heart wrenching to see the poor. I'm so glad I got the experience. My ex really pushed me to go, as she's been traveling a while and I'm so glad that I listened to her. It's so much different than America, and now that I've seen that, I wanna see it all :)

All in all the trip was very tiring, I had to deal with my first encounter of racism (in Simla a guard almost didn't let us into a hotel because my ex and I are white). New experiences all around, got to see some stuff that was just incredibly astounding, and as I said before, I'm happy I went. I'll definitely make it back sometime after I've explored around a little more :)

Yeah his family lived in Dehli, so I guess we based our travel around that mostly. I keep on hearing from multiple sources how great South India is, hence it's on my list of places to go back to :)

He did say he went to Bombay (Madras)...look at his pictures...the last one is the Gateway Arch! (IIRC)

I like the South when I was over there. The temples were alot more colorful and the food seemed better. Plus it seemed like there was less pollution than in the Delhi-Agra-Jaipur triangle.

Correct, the last picture is the Gateway Arch. And I guess Bombay is south, just not south south from what I hear.

Very nice pictures. If anything, I think you should have either waited longer or taken sooner the sunset/sunrise pictures. That way, you could have used a longer shutter time and gotten more detail in the foreground without having the sun blow up on the horizon.

I think the one with the pillar and the sun just off frame at what looks like hte taj mahal looks great.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you get that gallery working? Is it something you did yourself?

Thanks for the critiques! On the sunset picture with the smokestacks, I actually took that on a moving bus to Jaipur... it was beautiful so I had to take a picture :)

And the gallery... here

I think it's a pretty neat gig :)
