I think "pop and wow" has been overdone and makes many images look commonplace.
A good photograph doesn't pop, but slowly offers up its brilliance.
Of course, that's entirely a matter of taste, and post-production is still mandatory, especially if you have raw sensor data and a reasonably well-calibrated sRGB screen handy.
Well, the latter is nice, if you keep your pictures digital, anyway -- if you print, you basically need to get your screen to conform to your printer, which usually ends in madness and ultimately guesstimation.
What's actually more useful, is a set of filters: polarizers and graduated neutral density being the ones of particular interest. If you're thinking about taking more time to get the right shot, those are a great tool to enhance your overall capabilities.
Myself, I've had my mothers old Leica R3 repaired for Christmas, so I'll try to get some film through it. There's something that feels so right about priming the shutter by hand, and the huge, split-screen viewfinder
😀
But, lately I feel like I lack the inspiration to take photos - I lost the ability to not dismiss the mundane, so I don't see what's so special about it, anymore. It's a bit frustrating.
PS: damnit, necro-baited, but I'm not just going to trash this post
😀
