1) Is Android (Preferably 4.1 but 4.0 with planned upgrade is ok)

2) 4.3 or larger screen, 300+ PPI, Prefer LCD over OLED

3) Removable Battery

4) MicroSD Slot

5) Running a S4 Krait, Tegra 3 or Samsung Quad

6) Has an iphone 5 caliber camera (One X is currently closest IMO)

7) Unlockable by code or available unlocked

The Sony Xperia T is the phone I want the most, but its starting out around $630 on ebay right now. I hope once supply increases, the price will drop. I bought my One X S4 version unlocked and new off ebay for way less.

The LG Optimus 4X HD is also a very nice phone, and can be had for around $400 from Hong Kong if you look for it. The Camera focus issue thats plagued the device, and the fact that LG still hasn't fixed it has me concerned about going LG. There new UI is probably the fastest UI available now compared to Samsung and HTC, but LG's lack and/or slowness of O/S updates in the past concerns me too.

Anyone wonder why my above device isn't exactly available? I don't think I'm asking a lot, and am still surprised there is little to chose from that meet what I want. The One X I currently have now is close, but lack of MicroSD and Battery removal will have me flipping it as soon as something that meets the above comes out below $600 on ebay new. The Galaxy Nexus is nice, but its camera sucks, especially indoors. I use my Cell camera often as I never carry a point or shoot, so it's important to me.

I'd buy the phone you've described if available on Verizon but only up to 4.5" depending on bezel. #3 is definitely optional for me.

I think this is debatable. The SGS3 camera certainly wins over the One X.

I disagree. I had a chance to use both quite a bit before purchasing and went One X due to the better screen and camera, but these of course are my opinion. I found the SGS3 to have poorer color reproduction compared to the One X.

I can sure as shit tell you the Galaxy S3 Audio quality sucks if your capturing video too, sounds way to "hollow"

EDIT: Here is an example video showing what I experienced. See the 4s sound vs the S3 sound.

for me, a removable battery is the biggest issue. unfortunately the trend among all the manufacturers excepte samsung seems to be to use nonremovable. i dont need to have the thinnest phone. i do need to replace the battery in my 4g phone

Overall, we'd call the Samsung Galaxy S III the winner here, with a slight advantage over the LG Optimus 4X HD. The HTC One X overprocesses shots and we found the results lacking, though it does have the widest FoV and it performs well under unfavorable lighting thanks to that bright F/2.0 aperture. The Meizu MX 4-core has potential but the software needs more tweaking and our unit had a lens issue.

I guess it's a pretty close call but I think most sites give the SGS3 the nod. I wouldn't mind having either camera though.

How come LCD over OLED? I know that OLED has some problems with wearing out unevenly, but it seems like a very neat feature to be able to selectively light only portions of the screen (for apps like NoLED).

I guess you could argue that a decent notification light would be a better solution, but there are other things you could do too :D

I'm still waiting for my hybrid e-ink/LCD/OLED displays... I hope the flying car of my choice has one in the center dash :colbert:

Iphone's 5 camera has that purple fringe defect. The Nokia Lumia 920's camera is the best.

I think the truth is somewhere in between.

One X takes better still photos when your object and you are perfectly still and you have good lighting. The LCD screen is great, though, with excellent color reproduction so viewing images on the phone is a joy at least.

S3 takes better low-light photo, and has better image stabilization. But the screen is over-saturated + wrong so viewing images on the S3 is like a no go affair.

Neither holds any candle to iPhone 5 IMO. It's hard enough for either of those phones to beat the iPhone 4S camera.

OLED screens don't have very high brightness level, making them less useful outside in bright sunlight, plus Samsung over saturates the display.

Don't get me wrong. The Galaxy s3 is nice, I just prefer the One X. I prefer its pics over it. Screen and build quality is bar none to other same gen Androids I've personally used. I loved my Galaxy Nexus but the screen and camera are 1-2 notches below the One X in my opinion.

I had a 900 for a bit to play with. Win 7 was lacking many things and its cam wasn't that good, a step below this gen. Hope Win 8 brings a lot of new things.

The Nexus' camera sucks significantly more than even the SGS2. I was at a baseball game on Sunday and some iPhone 4S user was like "wow your camera is so nice" to some GNex user. I was like wtf, just because they did panorama doesn't mean the hardware is nice. I'm pretty sure my photos came out better on the SGS2.

Anyway, I really love the One X. The One X+ would be great if there's more info on LTE bands.
