Hi all, I'm new here and am trying to figure out what I need to upgrade to a nvidia geforce GTX 570. Because my pc is pretty old now a lot of its out of date and i know there is a few things i am going to have to upgrade to get the whole thing working properly.

This is my current pc spec:

Graphics Card: GeForce 9600 GS
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad
RAM: 4GB
PSU: 250W (lol)
PC Case: Packard Bell, don't know the dimensions of it though

Think thats everything.. let me know if not :)

I am mainly considering the GTX 570 for the card. I saw the Intel Sandybridge i5-2500K processor, dunno if that's along the lines of what I need? Guessing a 700W or something or so for the PSU? any particular brand worth mentioning?

Any help will be greatly appreciated :D

Core 2 Quad can handle a GTX 570 on 1080p alright, it'll bottleneck in the more CPU heavy games. If you could overclock the CPU that'd be great.

-> overall budget (what are you hoping to spend, how much are you willing to spend)
-> country
-> gaming resolution

I'd recommend taking a look at HD7850 and HD7870 or waiting for GTX660/660Ti to be released. GTX 570 is last-gen.

A new decent 500W unit will cost $50-60 or so.

i5-3570K, Z77 mobo and 8GB RAM will cost at least $350. A non-overclockable i5 and a B75 motherboard with 4GB RAM would cost at least $300.

awesome fast reply :)

not to bothered about the cost, i know itll cost a few hundred. I guess for arguments sake around 400-500 pound. I can always do it in smaller parts anyway, not in a massive rush to be done ASAP.

Im in England and my res is 1920x1080.

Ill be using it for casual gaming really, nothing hardcore, but I'm generally a multiplayer gamer so will probably head towards cod and maybe BF3 etc. Will defo be on the more hardware demanding games.

I don't know much about hardware etc, am i a lot better off getting something i can overclock? also is a Z77 mobo something i should look at? clueless when it comes to Mobo's, RAM and processors.

Thanks :)

One way to go about this is to start at the other end - new case, PSU, motherboard, RAM, CPU. Then use your existing graphics card, HDD, optical drive. That way you will be prepared for the next set of upgrades, which will start with the graphics card.

If you do the graphics card first, you will have to upgrade the PSU (and hope it is standard ATX) and hope that the case has enough airflow. It would be possible... maybe post a link to the computer or post a few pics of the case.

ah thats a very good idea, thanks :) I think i need a new case anyway as this ones a bit damaged and doesnt look like it has much room left in it.

I think for now I will look around at whats available case wise and probably follow that idea and work my way through the upgrades.

Thanks all.
