my pc is randomly freezing and not booting

Hi. I think my computer is finally dieing. Here are the symptoms.

It will randomly freeze in windows
It will freeze at the bios screen or any other screen along the way to loading windows
It will freeze at the windows logon screen
I will get a BIOS error saying secondary slave doesnt work
I will get a BIOS error saying INCORRECT SYSTEM DISC..

And then sometimes it will work

im guessing this is a motherboard issue....

is it toast?

any help appreciated thanks

First things first... try clearing the CMOS per your MB manual.

After that, use MemTest to ckeck your RAM.

ok ill try clearing the cmos.

ran memcheck and everything passed.

im now getting a windows bsod and it does a physical memory dump...

its weird though sometimes my bios will detect the hdd and other times it wont..

Ok i think i may have fixed the problem- and its a stupid one at that.

Whilst taking the battery out, i noticed the SATA plug was sorta on an angle and not clipped in properly.

Pushed it in properly and it seems to be working. Lets hope that was the problem.

Just didnt think of checking that because the intermittent and various messages i was getting suggested that it was a problem with the hardware as if it was the cord, i woulda thought it would stop working completely.

Ah well we will see how it goes... thanks for the help
