i did a fresh install of xp pro sp3. i have the latest bios gigabyte dsp3 1.1 (p35chipset). latest intel chipset driver, dx 9c for ati x1950pro. before i reinstalled OS my PC was working fine.

did a fresh install and my vlc player and winamp cant play videos while media player classic home cinema can. adobe flash reader is borked so youtube video says flash has crashed. counter strike source seems like it starts working with starting to launch game, then nothing happens. local area connection icon doesnt show up after boot until a few minutes and ati tray tools takes a few to load up as well.

so i did another fresh install, but having the same problem. tried 1 ram stick at a time, reseated and reapplied thermal paste q6600, cleared cmos, tried optimal default in bios, but still same issues.

im guessing since its not just a specific issue im having but several, it has to be an OS problem, but im stumped as to exactly what.

edit: only hardware change before and after reinstall OS was i took out my pci audigy 1 card out, and enabled my onboard sound.
also ran avg virus scan, and ccleaner.

Did you wipe the hard drive before attempting the 2nd fresh install, or did you just install it over the first install?

fresh install was on a reformatted HD.

ran the windows tool suggested and my log file shows no problems with no bad sectors. minor fix Cleaning up 181 unused index entries and unused security descriptors.

i dual booted 64bit vista sp2, everything was going fine, i looked at youtube, it worked fine checking on a few videos. i downloaded and installed vlc player, tried playing a random video file on my HD, and vlc crashed and closed. immediately went back on youtube again and adobe flash crashed as well now again... hmm..

im having the same issue with vista sp2 64bit. i dont know what else to try. memtest my memory i suppose. any suggestions on what my problem can be?

uggg.. it was my VLC 2.0.1 player all along. got rid of that with ccleaner, and now everything runs primo. dunno why vlc is so buggy though, but this took me 2 days to figure out.
