Actual download speeds are 26-28 mbps when I'm nearby, but if I step away they drop to 18-20 mbps.
This have proven to be repeatable, consistent, and logged repeatedly over long time periods/downloads.

I don't have a webcam or microphone, so I'm not sure how my PC has become aware of my presence.
I tried leaving various objects in my place, none of them work to replace me.
Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

A little tedious when I have a 120 GB download to complete...I'd like to get some rest, but can't take the hit on speed. I got tired of staring at the data and decided to use 2 mbps to browse the net with. Everything is slow loading for sure, but it's better than doing nothing.
 
Your body has become a transmission and amplification center for Wi-Fi data signals. Go to a laboratory and get studied fast before you get real angry at something and mutate into something like the Hulk.

I've been doing that since I was a kid.
Never lost a fight, and only 1 tie.

We were so impressed with each others ability that we called it a draw and ceased hostilities, perhaps slightly positive toward one another.
 
OK I just can't stay awake any more, ~17GB left to go. At 18-20 mbps that should take around 2 hours (if my tired brain can has maths). Should be enough time to squeeze the crust out of my eyes so I can go for another 8 hours or so.

This is almost my guess.

Is your connection over WiFi? If it's 2.4GHz, this might help. Or maybe you should upgrade to 802.11AC if it's a short run.The 2.4GHz spectrum where I live is crazy-cluttered, but the 5GHz spectrum is almost empty.

Edit: Also, if you have an Android phone, get Farproc WiFi Analyzer. There might be a clearer channel than the one you're using.

I tested out various positions (that doesn't sound lewd), and my body certainly doesn't improve WiFi unless I'm sitting next to the PC. No AC available from the router (N 150). Even if there was, in every case I've seen 5GHz is VASTLY worse than 2.4Ghz for range, connection speed, and actual download rates. Besides all that, I'm actually sustaining my maximum connection as long as I'm next to the PC (technically it's a 25 mbps connection). It's only when I walk away that the download rates drop to 18-20 mbps. Usually not a problem, except for huge downloads I don't want to watch (which are fairly rare).

Interestingly I've never had an android phone, until like last week. Even then it's not actually my call phone...just an old clunker a friend gave me that can connect to WiFi. I was able to follow enough instructions to hack it for steam guard. If I want to install anything I have to find the android exe file (can't recall what extension it really is) and do a bunch of crazy stuff to get it on the phone.
 
Is this a desktop PC, and not a laptop? Why isn't it connected wired? What is your wired ISP speed? (Or are you using a WISP?)

Edit: Get a NAS, with a download util, for big / heavy downloads, so you don't have to be there. You can wire the NAS to your router, with a WIRED connection, and then just connect to the router wirelessly, and transfer the files when they're done from the NAS.

Desktop PC. I'm in the basement/crawl space, complete opposite corner and wasn't permitted to make the 100+ ft cable run through all the rooms and floors (it's on the top floor far corner). No idea on wired speed, not permitted to enter the upper rooms, but informed it's a 25mbps connection. I realized by the password they gave me that it was likely the default, and thus I could probably get into the router settings. Indeed I can...but dunno what all most of that I'm looking at in there. I don't see anything that lists connection speeds.

I'll admit, I have no idea what a WISP is...or anything you said after that.

Wireless ISP. I had one once, when I lived in a very small town. Small enough that there were no wired options for internet, not even dsl, so the unlimited 5mb/s connection was vastly better than using cell provider options. Now I live in an actual town and have a 100mb cable connection. Never ever going back 🙂
