i have had a 1 Gig tbird over clocked to 1.2 for a little over a year now... tonight i was having a problem where my machine would mysteriously shut down after being on for about 2 minutes... wouldnt even start up with the power button, so i had to hard boot it with the power supply... i got it to boot into cmos and i dropped it down to 1.1 gigs... it seems to be working fine again... is this a normal thing to have to do?

Actually your computer is not dying :)

Problem seems to me is that your CPU cooler has had its longest time and/or is clogged with dust. Try to clean your cooler and fan until its sparkly clean again and reapply some oil on the fan (located under the sticker).

Also maybe re-apply some good quality thermal paste between the CPU & HSF unit.

Also try cleaning some other case fans or just clean the case so that dust doesn't impact it.

Dust is a huge factor in case cooling and it seems like you were pushing the limits already of your CPU and a small factor of dust could impact/hamper your overclocking.

Also if you don't feel like taking the time to clean your case (especially if you have a huge case) and/or fans then either raise the CPU core voltage by a view 0.025 volts (if your motherboard allows it) or buy a faster & louder CPU fan.

ok new update, i cleaned off all the fans... dont have any thermal paste... now when i hard boot it, all that starts up is the power supply fan... i have tried reconnecting all wires from power supply to devices and the mobo and no dice... should i just upgrade to a kt266? :)

what you mean to tell me is that your mobo is fried.

Just check all your cables and don't go upgrading your comp just because its not overclocking to well :)
