My PC build update.

As some of you know I built a new PC. After much debate, compromise and some really great advise from some of the members. I chose the I7 4790k for the cpu...and don't regret it one bit so far! I also chose 8gb of 1866 G.SKILL Ripjaws X memory. So far this was another good choice. I went with a GIGABYTE GA-Z97X-UD3H-BK MB. It recognized everything at boot up with no hiccups. Instead of a ssd, I got a really good deal on a Western Digital WD VelociRaptor. I had one of these a few years back, and have to say its dang fast. Finally I went with a cooler master 212 evo. Personally, I'm not so happy with it. It seems to cool the cpu fine (4.4ghz) but the way it installs is...well nuts. I will most likely replace it after some more testing.

I have not OCed anything yet, as I'm still testing. I did manage to play a couple of games and have seen a huge improvement from my x58 (i7 975) system.

Just would like to thank everyone for the help.

Glad it worked out well for you! :awe:

PS. If you think a VelociRaptor is fast, you should try an SSD!

Yup. An SSD would make the VelociRaptor look like the extinct dinosaur it is. 😉

Once you get the 212 mounted you don't have to fool with it... so I wouldn't bother trying to upgrade unless it's to water. It is a little tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy.

I remember some here and other hardware forums, saying how my old I7 975 (extinct dinosaur IMO ) was still a powerful chip. The difference between my I7 975 and my new 4790k is off the charts!

100% This. There is no comparison. A modern SSD is going to destroy a VelociRaptor, in many cases by a factor of ten. Moving parts will never beat NO moving parts.
