My Parents got into a minor fenderbender...

Anyone know whether this will buff right out?

before and after.

They walked right out of it. No Airbags deployed and it flipped over. Buncha good samiritans in Brooklyn helped flip the car back to get my parents out. They are both home and hurting, but for the most part OK.

What the fvck happened?

There was construction ahead, someone tried to avoid an orange traffic barrel, and merged into my fathers lane, clipped the front and threw them into the divider.

The guy kept driving. Witnesses did get the model of the car, and a partial plate, but nothing so far about catching the dude.

Wow... I'm glad they're ok. Honestly it looks like it could have been much worse.

What's that sticking through the window?

Looks like the grille of the car. How on earth did that get ripped off the front of the car and impaled through the windshield? It's a miracle anyone could walk away basically uninjured from something that looks like that.

Looks like the front bumper.

lol, the junkyard that the car is at -- the workers there stored the bumper there to save space I guess.

I wouldn't say they were uninjured. My mom is black and blue from hanging from the seatbelt, and my father broke two ribs. They are walking around and arguing like normal though. 🙂

My father was modding the car little by little. He already had installed a Volant (?) Cold Air, and was going to get the whole exhaust system built custom. (He had a really hooked up Ford Explorer previously.) He put it in before the car even hit 200 miles.

Now he says he is going to give up and just get an SRT8 model. 😀
You got to love these 65 year olds with their mid-life crisis!

Don't they teach anymore that a car-car head-on is the worst possible choice?
I learned way back...
Take the sholder...
Take a tree...
Take a deer...
Take the orange barrel, but...
NEVER go into oncoming traffic!

It sounds like they were driving in the same direction.

Yes, it does sound like they were going the same way.
Even so, I am surprised it would flip over that easily. As
to repairs, I think the insurance co is going to total the car.
Especially with the damage to the roof area. If the roof did
not buckle, they would probably repair it. And we can't see
the damage on the passenger side in that photo.

Accident (and car is located) was definitely in Brooklyn. How could you tell?

EDIT: LOL Nevermind, I just saw that I mentioned it in the OP. lol

Yeah, travelling in the same direction. The divider was about 2 feet high (or whatever the normal height is.) The cars front wheel caught it and car flipped. My parents really don't remember past that.

Towing company is refusing to let my mom take her personal stuff out of the car until the adjuster comes by. (They haven't seen the car yet for some reason. They are more worried about the hospital bills...) Is this normal to be denied access to the contents of the car?

We did manage to get a few small things, but we want the stuff in the trunk. They won't allow us to open it.

Already the GPS is missing, as well as a blood sugar tester + my father kept a roll of quarters in the car.

Why the heck didn't the airbags go off?

By the description of the accident they wouldn't have. They should only deploy on a front end crash, this was a roll over.

If they hit a divider first though, they should have gone off. Also, airbags deploy when you get hit from most directions, not just the front.

No, only if they hit the divider head on. What happened here, sounds like the Drivers side
wheel bounced off the divider while it was turned to the Right. Now the car flips over. So
no airbag deploys. And even in a frontal crash, the car has to be at least 12mph or more
for the airbag to deploy.

At any rate, good thing everyone is fine. Enjoy your New Replacement
car. I am certain this will be a total loss for the insurance company.

Front airbags sure, but the OP doesn't mention if they had side impact/side curtain airbags as well. My side impact airbags deployed when I was t-boned by someone going ~ 50mph into my passenger side door. I would expect side airbags to deploy when the car rolls.

Looks to be an option on the 300, did they not opt for them?

On a side note, following my accident a few months ago, I will NEVER buy a car without them, ever.

Actually he had every option, except for navigation. The seats do have the airbag tag on them. I guess the impact wasn't severe enough to set it off. They weren't really traveling very fast at all.

I personally think that airbags going off may have made things worse.
