My Panaflo L1A (80mm) Review

Just got my L1A in the mail from Amazon. Shipping took about 4 days even though I ordered 2-day shipping.

The fan was surprisingly heavy for a fan.
Here are the specs:
-21dbA
-24CFM

A day earlier, I bought another fan from CompUSA (mad cat cooling or something)
-23dbA
-25CFM

And that fan was cheaper than the Panaflo.

I hooked them both up, and the Panaflo won hands down.

Noise: SILENT! (both fans were quite quiet actually) EVEN when turned all the way up (using Coolermaster Musketeer fan controller).

Airflow: MUCH better than the Mad Cat cooling fan. I would say at least twice as powerful.

What else is there to say about this fan? They're much more quiet and much more powerful than the stock fans on my case.

Adding the two fans (the CompUSA one as the exhaust, and Panaflo as the intake) decreased my case temperature by 7 degrees.

Highly Recommended. The ones made in Japan are quieter than the ones made in China, by the way.

The Panaflo L1A is a very popular fan around these parts and has received kudos from nearly all who use them. They can also be found at a real bargain. Places like BG Micro and All Electronics sometimes have them for $3.50 or less. I bought four from All Electronics a couple of years ago for $4 each. Other retailers will charge upwards of $10 each.

Is your Panaflo Made in Japan or Made in China?

In the past, there was an observation that the Made in Japan ones had less bearing noise, but manufacturing in China may have improved and decreased the gap between the two.
 
I was wondering why everyone seem to be buying this in conjunction with Thermalright Xp-90
I get it now.

But I am a keen case modder. If I buy fancy cold cathode/UV reactive fancy case fans would they do as well?
 
I replaced all of my case fans in my Lian-Li case with Panaflo fans. Immediate decrease in noise.

The ONLY problem I have encountered with Panaflo L1A fans is that they do not work well with pulsating-DC fan controllers. You must either use a rheostat based controller or a controller that uses a linear DC voltage.
 
this panaflo is the SPCR reference fan for a reason. not the absolute best, but a very good quality fan that is fairly cheap to get (in the States anyways)
 
its the best deal. japanflos can be had for $3-5 usually, and the BEST costs alot more, i think around $17 for the nexus. i use 6 panaflos, never above 7v voltage, which is where they really shine.
 
i have a stack of panaflo's from japan and china. the chinese fans are actually quieter and this is not a single occurence.
